hi,
im currently travelling alone but will soon be meeting up with a girl and her daughter to take a trip together around argentina/chile

i guess i cannot be as carefree as when i am travelling alone.. and probably need to book accomodation in advance etc.....and just be overall more careful

also there seems to be no budget accomodation in the lonely planet that is geared towards this so i guess i will have to find all accmodation on the internet.

i would appreciate any help at all on this matter in how i can prepare for this kind of trip.
or indeed any suggestions of places that are nice to bring a child.

also we will be spending christams week together? any suggestions?

matt

sorry i meant this to go in the "general travel forum"

Matt,

Don't worry too much, travelling with kids can be truly fun, just look at my blog and you'll see he doesn't stop us to do great things.

People in South America are very nice toward kids...and big kids too....

If you do stay one week, you may want to avoid the number of time you change places, specially if the child is not really use to it.

Have fun,

You are a brave man! I haven't been to Chile but I can certainly recommend Buenos Aires- it has such a fun and free atmosphere I don't think you'll have a problem - even the grown-ups are kids at heart. There are a lot of things for kids to do that adults will love too - you can visit the Planetarium (http://www.planetario.gov.ar/) and the huuuge parks in Palermo (see duckS)! - there is also a great Zoo (http://www.zoobuenosaires.com.ar/) around there, right by the Plaza Italia subway stop. There is a great craft fair (not for tourists) called Feria de Mataderos where you can see real gauchos dancing and singing... but take a cab there. In terms of a kid-safe place to stay I'd suggest contact http://www.buenosairesstay.com - I know they rent apartments at very good prices and are kid friendly. Also, if you come to BA you could take some day trips to Uruguay (great beaches) or Tigre, which is 1 hr away and is like a suburban Venice.
This link could also be helpful for finding info and activities: http://www.kidscantravel.com/familyvacationdestinations/buenosaires/plan/index.html

If you say where you are going in Chile it would help. I think Argentina and Chile are probably two of the easiest countries to travel around with a kid. If you are here Nov. or Dec. you'll be ahead of the summer rush and shouldn't have trouble with lodging. Reply to this

hi,
thanks for all of the help and support people. im feeling more confident about it now.

they live around punta arenas area. so i was thinking it could be nice to see some of that part of the world . but they also want to get to somewhere hotter while they have holidays so will probably move north for a while one way or the other. being in a hot climate right now, i kind of like the idea of spending chrismas somewhere nice and cold.. . though i do understand its mid summer in december and i suppose i wont find any snow...

the buenos aires & uruguay suggestions also sound like a really good idea too, i will be really considering that

also you blog is fantastic pierre. i will show it to my sister who also has a child to show her this is possible hehe
