Where to go in Ireland?
15 years ago, September 11th 2008 No: 1 Msg: #48443
I have spent the last few days in Dublin, Ireland and I am ready to leave the city and check out some other smaller Irish towns. Any suggestions for cool places to go with some great outdoors, hiking, and camping? Reply to this

Have you ever been to Cork? It is a lovely irish town with typical atmosphere :-) and enjoy your trip!

Hi Natasha,
Depends of how much time you got but the entire Ireland is pretty much great for outdoor/ hiking! My favorite places include the Galway area, Cork and northen ireland (giant foot area). Absolutely breathtaking sceneries and really friendly people!
Both car and buses are a great option in Ireland! Have fun!

Hi Natasha,

As an irish person i feel i may be able to give you some better advice. If you are looking for scenery you are spot on with the west coast. Head south from Galway taking in County Clare you have the cliffs of moher (great scenery), the Aillwee Caves, down to the ring of Kerry and on to the blarney stone in Co Cork.

There are plenty of bus eireann busses that will get you where you want to go, oh and the most important thing to ireland is GET OUT OF THE CITIES!! to experience the real ireland like so many countries you really need to avoid the major metropolises. Go to a small town for a night and find a nice old irish pub for some real craic.

If you want any more advice on anything irish msg me Reply to this

Hello Natasha 😊

What about hiking or cycling around as much of the coast of Ireland as you have time for. I cycled around half of the coast of Ireland one Summer staying in hostels along the way. Ti took me 3 weeks to get half way around. Pretty much all of the coast is beautiful.

I dont know much about the locations of camp sites but there are also probably plenty around the coast. and farmers may let you pitch your tent in their fields.

Thanks for all of the advice! I spent all of September in Ireland. I did get to some of the major cities such as Dublin, Galway, and Cork (the real capital). But I also did alot of hiking along the coast and despite camp grounds closing I was able to pitch a tent in closed campgrounds and just right on the beach in certain places. Cliffs of Moher were incredible along with Aran Islands- although I dont recommend doing both- it tends to be pretty similar and kind of a tourist trap. And of course I got to check out the Blarney stone and some of Cork's piers for jumping into the ocean.
Also, there is a GREAT couchsurfing scene in Ireland; so I definitely recommend checking that out.

Thanks again for all the great advice!
