Bariloche to Santiago?
15 years ago, August 28th 2008 No: 1 Msg: #47135
Hi - does anyone know of an airline that flies direct from Bariloche to Santiago; and another from Santiago to Arequipa in Peru? I think we need proof that we will be leaving Argentina when we arrive in SA (flying into Buenos Aires) and same to leave Chile...? Any advice much appreciated!! Reply to this

I don't think there's anything direct from Bariloche to Santiago. From Mendoza or Buenos Aires there are connections. You could check Aerolineas Argentina and LAN websites to be sure.

Btw, we didn't need any proof of onward travel from Argentina when we arrived in Buenos Aires or when we boarded the flight in London. Nobody checked if we had a return ticket. In fact travelling through 15 Latin American countries the only one that asked for proof of onward travel was Panama. And even in that case, the guy in front of us at the sirport was allowed to go on without any proof. Reply to this

There should be two flight a week on Lan from Santiago....double check on www.lan.com, did use them before. You could also use Lan to Arequipa, but don't think you will find direct flight.

Depending where you are from, you may want to use their south american airpoass, should be cheaper than buying signle tickets.

Would confirm waht Barry write for proof of onward travel. All depend also where you fly from and with which passport.

Have fun in SA, was there back in February 08 the last time.

El Calafate (incl. Puerto Natales/Parque Nacional Los Glaciares/Torres sel Paine)/ Bus to:
Bariloche(incl. Puerto Blest/El Bolson etc.)/ Fly to:
Santiago (Valparaiso/Vina del Mar)/ Fly to:
Arequipa (Colca Canyon)/ Bus to:
Cusco (Lares - Macchu Piccu trek/ Fly to:
Lima (flight back to Dublin from Lima).

There are no longer flights directly between Santiago and Bariloche. 😞 But you can catch a bus in Bariloche which will take you to Osorno in Chile. From there an overnight bus to Santiago. You can buy it as a through ticket in Bariloche from a couple of companies: Tas Choapa (I think)/Turbus and Bus Norte/Cruz del Sur. You have a couple of hours between the connection. I once did it going beyond Osorno to Puerto Varas from Bariloche, PV is smaller and nicer, and got the bus there. The bus went back through Osorno on the way to Santiago but I thought I would prefer to stay somewhere a bit easier to walk around on my own.
There are flights to Arequipa with SKY but you will probably have to phone them as their online booking isn't geared to foreign credit cards. Reply to this

Hi Kate,
Your interinary is similar to mine!
I'm planning to do Dublin-Buenos Aires, from there fly to Puerto Madryn (Penisula VAldes),then bus/flight (?) to El Calafate .Next bus to Bariloche and i'll probably join an organized tour in Santiago as i'm not too sure about travelinng though Chile and Bolivia just on my own.
I also have 6 weeks in March and April.
I was doing some research on internal flight tickets and they are really expensive, even 6 months in advance! Reply to this

Hi Dosia

Amazing!! We were gonna go to Puerto Madryn also before El Calafate but decided to give it a miss cos of flight expense/time limits for our holiday etc. Seems internal flights are very pricey alright...kinda now thinking of spending 4 weeks just in Argentina then fly out of BA to Lima, getting to Arequipa/Cusco and back to Lima in time to fly home. I must say, I can't wait for the whole experience. Happy travels!! Reply to this

Hi Dosia and Kate,

You should also look at the price of flights from El Calafate to Bariloche when you get there as it could save you a bit of time. I flew for 90 euro in march 07 which saved us a 30 hour(i think) , 50 euro bus journey.
The cheapest place in the town to buy a plain ticket was in the bus station. Sometimes this option can be cheaper....

The bus from BA to Puerto Madryn was 19hours so i would try fly Puerto Madryn to El Calafate(25 hour bus) instead if possible. Reply to this

I can recommend the bus from Bariloche to Santiago - via Mendoza - just did it back in July. Crossing the pass from Mendoza to Santiago by bus was a great highlight - absolutely spectacular! Reply to this
