Hello world!
Next year (april) I am leaving the Netherlands to travel to Ethiopia!! Yeah map of Ethiopia hanging on my wall, LP read in-side-out and tickets booked!! Fun part: making my route is started!
I am going for one month, with backpack and photo camera, and looking for tips: is it ok to hire a car there or can i do this month by bus? Is it ok to hire a local guide?
Nice places to sleep, things i must eat. I would like to go to the Danakil desert, can it be arranged for a day trip? ....things like that...
Maybe there are other people with same plans and want to hook up somewhere, share a car etc.?!
Let me know!
Bye bye
Reply to this Just spend the last year In Ethiopia, first off it is an amzing country as well as being probably the most frustrating and country i have ever been to.
at work so got to be quick but pls reply back with more ques if you want:
For one month i would suggest budgeting for a car and driver for some of your trips especially down south otherwise you will find yourself on a bus most of the time which aren't fun and take bloody ages
Outside Addis hotels aren't great but there are loads so shop around and check the mattresess!
Danakil desert - need a few days+ car+driver and guard
I personally loved the food but some friends didn't and so ate pasta most of the time, expect to get ill, think i had every possible illness going by the end of it.
Places that you have to go to:
Harar
Omo valley
Gondor / Simian Mountains
Bale Mountains
Try not to plan to pack to much in as things will always fck up...nature of Ethiopia
Pls email back with any other questions...home time 😊
