I'm going to Miami in September... Any suggestions on activities, weather, things of interest?

Hey guys,

I have been surfing around different forums and chat-rooms trying to find things to do in Florida when my girlfriend and I go in September. We were given a free trip happening between the 8th through the 17th. Any suggestions on places to go and things to do? So far, we have Disney world, a 2 day cruise to the Caribbean, and that's it. Let us know. Thanks guys.

Oh yeah... when does hurricane season wind down?

I would highly recommend driving down to Keys.. may be to the Key West (4hrs from Miami).. make a stop at Bahia Honda state park also..
Also, Everglades Nat'l Park should be on the list.. just 1 hr from Miami... perfect for a day or a half-day trip..

Once May rolls around, low rates start to beckon at and on Mexico's Caribbean coast (Cancun and the Riviera Maya) ; but every once in a while, one of these popular destinations is hit by a destructive tropical storm. Florida too is vulnerable: on the Gulf Coast, on the eastern Atlantic coast, in the Keys in the south; even tourist powerhouse Orlando -- in the middle of the state-- gets an occasional blast.

Even if your holiday isn't actually in the path of a major storm, weather patterns are disrupted in a wide radius, and some days may be spoiled by rain and wind if you're in an affected area.

Still, hurricane season is a tempting time to travel: it spans the two top months when kids are out of school; also -- and not surprisingly!-- very tempting discounts are offered at Caribbean resorts during the hurricane season months.

If you are going to be in the North Fla. Area. I would suggest a stop in St. Augustine. It is the nations oldest city. There is plenty to do sightseeing, shopping,boat rides, and plenty of wonderful beaches. If you like history and sightseeing then you will enjoy a visit to St. Augustine. Reply to this

Aside from that, check out Downtown Disney and even venture into Orlando itself - Winter Park is a really nice suburb on the outskirts of town with plenty of restaurants, boutiques, etc. 'Gatorland' is also fun - a real look into old-Florida, before Disney moved in.
