St Thomas

I'm interested to travel to St Thomas in about a year but I am not looking to see any of the tourist parts. I want to see the REAL St Thomas.

Does anyone have any advice or know where I could look to find info on traveling to St Thomas and seeing more than just the vacations spots? I want to visit and live as if I was a local and experience it that way. I figure if anyone can help it would be on this sight. Thanks in advance and thanks for having me here!!
