Up your price a little and you can get something a little better.

But, if you are on Pattaya 2nd Road, not far from the Tim Bar, same side, there is a place with a sign saying 200 baht, this is almost across the street from the Lek Hotel. I walk by this place pretty often, it is not far from the new mall (McDonalds is visible from the street.)

On Boukhaw you will find some places for 200 baht. Usually these are fan only rooms, probably with cold water only. Some of the 200 baht rooms are short time rooms.

For 400 baht you can get the Florida Hotel, it is on Soi Skaw Beach, not far from the corner. This 400 baht includes air, hot water, private toilet and cable TV. The Florida is only two places down from Pattaya 2nd Road, part of the hotel is over a corner restaurant and and an A.M. P.M. store (like a Seven Eleven store.)

Sawasdee Mansion Hotel may have specials too, see link. Several Sawasdee hotels. I would choose a room in a Sawasdee Hotel or use the Florida first if I were a woman, even Wonder Woman! The Sawasdee Mansion Hotel I am thinking about is on Soi Honey Inn, just down from the Bay Breeze Hotel, right side. Soi Honey Inn has a Seven Eleven store and a bank at the Pattaya 2nd Road end.

I would go with the Sawasdee hotel it is less of a short time place like the 200 baht places.

Thanks Sir Hallbard...thought I'd spalash out, got a fan room in South Pattaya at ice inn for 250 baht...that extra 50 gives you so much more luxury...I only have 1 night there unfortunately, but will manage to fit in a couple of adventure dives aswell as take in the infamous nightlife I've heard so much about!

Not sure why Mell ur Lonely Planet hasn't got Pattaya in??? My 12th edition has. What edition have u got? Reply to this

...it was really cheap place (excuse the pun)...

LOL

What exactly is a wreck adventure dive? I am imagining you exploring a pirate ship which sunk 200 years ago. :D

the wreck dives are classed as 'adventure dives' which you can take 3 of out of a weird and wonderful choice and be a certified adventure diver. This + 2 other compulsary dives (navigation and deep diving) certifies you as and advanced diver. I'm none of these...even tho i should be as 1 of the dive operators in koh Tao (will remain nameless) 4 got to give me the accredited paperwork after my night dive!
Anyway...the wreck i went diving to (HTMS at Kood just off ko Sak) was a British 2nd world war ship, sold to the Thais after the war and after it came out of service was sunk (2 years ago now) for tourism - (divers) and to encourage marine growth and life in that part of the sea (i'll put the pics from my underwater camera up in my next blog post so you can see how much grows on it). Unqualified advanced divers can only do this dive if they don't get below 30 m and is part of their adventure dive certification and are with an instructor (like you'd do that alone!) We went to 26 m and explored it from the top....the advanced divers went inside with torches and explored (dive knives are invented 4 this incase of entanglement.) Then later when the currents got bad they went down again...just for the thrill of having to hold on (proper nutters) bet you didin't know scuba diving could be an extreme sport.
I know that Phillipines are supposed to have some of the best wreck diving in the world. I think you have to become a tech diver for that as they are really deep (below 60m)...maybe these ones have treasure...best see 4 ourselves xx Reply to this

I never thought of diving as an extreme sport but I do think it cant be as easy as it looks because so many qualifications and certificates are needed to do it. The thought of needing a knife in case some sea plant or creature with tentacles gets me would seem pretty extreme. Maybe even to be avoided. :D

I suppose if the ships were accidentically sunk, rather than somebody shooting holes in them to make them sink for the tourists then there may well be some kind of treasure. If anyone could recognise it with all those sea creatures growing on it...... Reply to this

The best guesthouse in town as far as I am convinced is the New Star Geusthouse in Soi 11 aka Soi Honey Inn.
I lived there for years, good service, friendly staff, big rooms and cheap rent.

The cheapest guesthouse in Pattaya is the PS Guesthouse in Soi Yamato Inn where the rooms go for as little as 100 Baht - a bit over two Euro - a day but off course you get what you pay for!!!
