Hello Adrienn 😊

Apparently 30% of the mail in Thailand goes missing. I used to write to a British prisoner in the Bangkok Hilton. I visited him and found out that he had only received 1 of the 5 items I sent in the mail.
When I contacted the British consulate about it they said that 30% of the mail in Thailand goes missing even when it is not being sent to a prison.

I dont know anything about the mail services in other SE Asian countries.

A good tip is to send everything by registered post, which has a much better chance of getting there - although you have to put your current guest house/accommodation as a return address which obviously you probably won't be around anymore if the package gets misrouted - but even so, registered post is more reliable - I found everything I sent from Thailand arrived safely. And also from Laos. Even from India, 90%!o(MISSING)f what I sent arrived when i used registered post, even from small towns. Maybe I was lucky, I don't know!

30% of the Thai mail goes missing? That sounds pretty harsh. I think I have dispatched some 20-30 parcels to the region over the last few years using regular unregistered mail, and so far I've never had any problems with destinations such as Thailand, Indonesia, southern China and the Philippines. And the one time I screwed up and used an incorrect address i even had it sent back to me straight from Guangdong which I didn't really expect. That said, I don't think I'd risk sending something irreplacable through the regular system. Reply to this
