I am going to travel around Canada for about 2 weeks
If somebody has information about this country, especially places to visit, please tell me. Reply to this

Hello Kostya 😊

I dont see any reason why it would not be safe to travel through Canada. There is nothing bad in the news about Canada at the moment is there? Of course it is sensible to take the usual safety precautions you would take in you own home place.

You could get a copy of the Lonely Planet Guide for Canada. That will have suggested itineries to give you some guidance about where to go.
It costs around 30 Euros and is available in most book shops around the world.

I've never had any problems other than that the immigration officials at Vancouver Airport have a bit of an attitude problem towards foreigners. Maybe it's the fact that Britons aspiring to emigrate there require a two and a half year wait to be interviewed at the Canadian Embassy in London that they treat UK passport holders as suspected illegal immigrants. Don't be surprised if you are asked to provide proof of where you are staying, as well as your return journey.

For a two week break, I would recommend staying in Montreal for a week, with day trips to Quebec City, Ottawa and possibly somewhere out in the sticks like Lac Mephragog, travelling on to Toronto to visit Niagara Falls during your second week.

or

Vancouver, Whistler, Victoria and elsewhere in Vancouver island if you have time. From Victoria you can go whale watching in the Strait of Juan de Fuca, expensive but worth every cent. Reply to this

Montreal is a really great city!!! It is a real trip- you will get to see two cultures live in almost perfect harmony! There is a lot to do there- the old port, gay village, downtown! There is also a mix of different cultures.

Quebec City is beautiful - it is just like France. There is a beautiful hotel that is really great. It has a upper and lower half of the city. There is beautiful art galleries as well.

Ottawa- I LOVED IT last time I was there. The parlement tour is great and it is a really small but great city. There is a real international town! The market is somewhere were I love getting great food.

Toronto- Sadly I have not travelled there since grade 5! But many of my friends love it and from there! Reply to this

I spent a year in Toronto and loved it.
It looked a bit too modern and boring at first with all those high rise buildings but it grew on me over the year.
I wished I could have stayed longer but the immigration folk would not give me another work permit extension.

If you fancy Montreal and are on a budget, McGill University lets out student rooms at a reasonable cost during the summer vacation. It is in an excellent location as well.

I concur with Angelsweetie re the Parliament tour in Ottawa (2 hours from Montreal). If you go to Quebec City (3 hours from Montreal) make sure you do the Citadelle tour as well. Reply to this

If you have the time to do the whole country I would start on the closest coast and head towards the opposite coast. If you start on the west there is plenty of small amazing communities. You also need to make your way to the province of Ontario in central Canada where. I would suggest taking the train through the rockies atleast to Alberta. From there I would suggest spending a couple days in each of the provinces capital cities and some time in both Edmonton and Calgary in Alberta. Alberta is booming at the moment due to oil so you may find prices high. Looking at it another way if you need work you can make tonnes of money in a short period of time. After making it through the praries (Alberta to Manitoba) the next place to go is through Ontario. Start in Thunder Bay working your way along the Great lakes as far south as the border if you find something interesting to do. You definatly need to make time for some natural beauty in the areas between Sudbury and Toronto area. I would suggest a couple days in Algonquin National Park. After going as far south as you desire follow up the eastern edge of the great lakes through Niagara Falls towards Ottawa. From Ottawa I would suggest atleast Quebec City, Montreal. There are plenty other intersting cities in Quebec (province) on the way to the maratimes (New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland and Nova Scotia). The maratimes has its own small cultures with smaller sized towns with plenty to do. I would also suggest getting guide books as there are so many cities and plenty of things to do to suit anyones needs. Good luck exploring Canada! Reply to this

Hiya,

The East Coast of Canada is good at this time of year. If you like ocean, icebergs and whales, Newfoundland is the place to be. Nova Scotia has beaches and historical sites and the Bay of Fundy is a treat later in the summer. Canada is not the cheapest place to travel though as distances are large but accommodations are very good and in the smaller areas it is very safe and posible that locals will put you up for the night for no charge.

Canada is very safe , as Mel said just take the usual security precautions like you would anywhere.

Like all places there are the bad areas and there are good areas.

I'm from St. John's Newfoundland, if you have any questions about Newfoundland or St. John's feel free to ask. Reply to this
