I think both El Calafate and Torres del Paine are open in the winter months, though not sure about the Fitz Roy sector of the Glacier National Park (which was my favourite area). Obviously trekking will be much more difficult in the winter conditions but I imagine the area looks even more beautiful with the extra snow. Reply to this

It could be really severe weather. Our advice would be avoid andean mountains, even in central or north region, during the period between may and october. You can do a lot other things during July in Argentina.http://www.travelblog.org/Bloggers/jagrz/ Reply to this

Sorry to go against and correct you jagrz, but the northern Andes are in great conditions at the time, matter of fact weather tendsto be more stable, rains are long gonne and you can enjoy of good trekking in Salta, Jujuy, Tucuman.
As for Chalten area, there will definetly be some snow, but the basic trails will be open and is really simple to find the way.
El Calafate is open all year round, though the place that sometimes is closed due to snow is the entrance to the Perito Moreno Glacier.
For any furher info do not hesitate to contact me.

Cheers, Nico. Reply to this
