Day 221 Bolivia, Potosi.

Hi Everyone,



We arrived after what was in fact an 11-hour bus journey through the night from La Paz to Potosi (approx. 10USD). We managed to get a bit of sleep but it’s never the best when sitting.



I was quite glad it was slower than originally thought; if it had been on time the bus would have arrived at 5am in the dark. But as it was 7.30am we felt quite safe getting a taxi. We have found so far there is little English spoken here in Potosi-so our Spanish numbers are very important to negotiate a price.



We arrived at our hostel, but had to wait until 10.30 to get our dorm beds. In that time I spoke to mum and had a shower. Neil is feeling pretty ill with a stomach bug this morning so he can’t wait to get to bed.



When we had our dorm beds we had a nap for 2 hours, clearly lacking sleep from last nights bus journey.



We headed out to a café for lunch-Neil had a BLT and I had a ham and mushroom fettuccini- not bad, all for £6.50.



In the afternoon we wrote some blogs, spoke to Pip and Shaw briefly then went out, seeking a Silver Mining tour to book up for tomorrow.



We did some research on Trip Advisor, and discovered the ‘Big Deal Tours’ are rated highly. We found their office in town and booked up with them for Monday (as Sunday is a day off for most miners).



In the evening Neil cooked a vegetable rice meal-it was pretty much inedible as he insists that cooking rice with one cup of water until it has boiled away is a sufficient enough time for the rice to cook… nope. Someone in the hostel had baked amazing toffee, chocolate biscuit cakes (not sure exactly what they’re called) and were delicious, so I filled up on that.



We watched a film, as we hadn’t met anyone else who is English, (mainly French and Spanish spoken in the hostel) so we watched a film instead: ‘While we’re young’ it was a bit strange.
