Bye Bye Miraflores..........
not that I can really see you behind the thick layer of winter mist! Well here we are gang.....the final travel blog.
It's been a funny 9 months all in all. So many high points and yet one or two sobering moments.
It's difficult at the moment to think that in just a few short weeks, this will all be but a distant memory, as I resettle into the working way of life.
Indeed at times the travelling itself has seemed somehow like a job. The routine of staying in hostels, smalltalk and bus journeys. At times you almost have to remind yourself, that every day is different and every single day you are experiencing something new and at times wonderful.
The highlights have come thick and fast over the last several months and it's hard to recall them off the top of my head. They range from the more obvious ones such as The Galapagos Islands, Machu Picchu and the Rio Carnaval to the more obscure like riding around the streets of Lima, sat on the back seat next to a 60 year old woman drinking beer and listening to Guns 'n' Roses!!
Im sure when im sat at home back in the daily torture that is working for
a living, from time to time i'll look back at the thousands of photos I took, with a huge grin and some very warm memories.
In a couple of days the cultural differences between home and South America that first surprised me, but now I have become blase about,
will also I think, seem a little strange. Walking past banks and not seeing security guards with shotguns and Uzis, stray dogs not chasing cars in the middle of the street or trying to hump each other and no pan pipe music unless you're in a shopping centre lift!
It will be odd to finish off a session of beers at one or two am, when out here thats when the partying starts, or to have some form of vegetables with dinner, rather than the numerous carbs on one plate, ie. rice and chips with the same meal! Not too mention the plentiful fanny i've been tucking into, over the last few days! (sorry but did you really think you were going to get away without the obligatory daft product name photos??....oh you did? shame on you. Just be thankful I didnt get a photo of the Cock branded
On the other hand........
Im not so sold on these solid Fanny tuna chunks...... tuna I saw in Sao Paulo!)
It's been a long road to get back to Lima, where it all began and many new friends from all over the world have been made along the way. Some that I know I will keep in touch with and others that will sadly fall by the wayside.
Speaking of friends, I want to take a moment just to thank the other three members of the awesome foursome, for making it a truly memorable event......
Ben, thanks for coming out to join the fun not once but twice! It was an absolute pleasure to witness so many cool places in your company. More importantly, it was an even bigger pleasure to watch you put your trousers back on after exposing us all to the monkey pouch G string!
Brad 'Freebird' Smith, without you Brad there would have been much less abuse on the blogs, so I thank you for the ammunition! Seriously though, its strange how well you can get to know somebody in such few months! Thanks very much for the counselling in hard times and awesome stir fry's. We'll catch up for a beer when you're finished down under!
And lastly C-Mac, shame we couldn't finished what we started together mate, but was good fun doing it all with you. From the stupid giggling over Peruvian Alan Sugars and Brazilian Yodas to the dodgy haircuts and drunken nights, it was a blast! Despite the minor quarreling which is to be expected when you live in each others pockets, I enjoyed every moment! Thanks for keeping my mind busy in tough times. Here's to being old and grey (well old anyway...im kind of already there on the grey thing!) and literall pissing ourselves over our South American adventure when we're in an old peoples home!!
I say lastly, but of course I want to thank anybody who has taken the time and trouble to read these blogs over the last 9 months! At times they have been painstaking to put together, thanks in part to dodgy keyboards or slow connections. Whilst I know I waffle at times, and when im not waffling have a tendancy to talk shit, the comments I received from some of you assured me that at least a few of you were reading and enjoying them! (though I suspect many of you were just looking at the pictures....come on admit it!) I hope that on a crappy Monday morning I might have out you in a slightly better mood, as you looked at some of the awesome sights i've seen. Though thinking about it now, I probably just made you more depressed that you're sat at work! Ah well, get inspired and get out there......it's a big world!
For (probably) the last time people, this is Darren, Dal, Daz, Dazza, Dicki, Grande D, Dazahkstan, Mr Lover Lover (alright so nobody calls me that!) signing out.
ps...no animals were harmed in the making of this blog. Nearly all the ones I ate were already dead.
