Dear reader

It's only 5 months now until we leave for Uruguay! Here are 5 books about Uruguay (in English) that we'd recommend to anyone wanting to learn a bit about the country on the northern shore of the River Plate and the pampas beyond:

Forgotton Conquests: Rereading New World History from the Margins, by Gustavo Verdesio. 2001.Temple University Press, Philadelphia.

Uruguay: Portrait of a Democracy. An informal Survey of the Switzerland of Latin America, by Russell H. Fitzgibbon. 1956. George Allen and Unwin, London.

The Tupamaros, by Maria Esther Gilio, translated from the Spanish by Anne Edmondson. 1972. Secker & Warburg, London.

The Invisible Mountain, by Carolina de Robertis. 2010. Harper Collins, London.

The Purple Land, by W.H. Hudson. 1904. The World Publishing Company, New York.

If you know of any other good books in English about this part of the world, we'd love to hear! We're still in the preparation stage of our trip and can't wait for it to actually happen - leaving October ...

Bye for now
Guapita

PS: Here are some good books if you're thinking about travelling to Australia:

1788, by Watkin Tench

The Life and Adventures of John Buckley, by Tim Flannery

Tracks, by Robyn Davidson
