If i had to pick one place so far that I miss the most. This would be it. I loved it here. We arrived in the afternoon, and once we stepped off that bus - man - i was in love! We saw all these signs for cabañas for rent, so we were pretty interested in doing that. We met a girl on the bus who we had seen at our hostel in Iguazu, and she was in .. and then there were these two guys who got off our same bus - so we asked them if they would like to share a cabaña with us aswell..the more the merrier (and cheaper!). We took a little walk down towards the beach, knowcking on doors, and asking around. And then we found it. Our little home for 3 amazing nights. Our house mates were Adrienne - from Ohio, and Carl and Otto from Sweden (yes, we definitely talked about the Sedins!!). The five of us got along really really well - which was good, considering our cabaña consisted of a loft that held 3 beds (two singles and a double), an extra mattress, and all of our backpacks. Let me tell
you, there was more than one occasion when I was sure that floor was going to give. It was already bowed - so i think it´s just a matter of time!! The downstairs had a bathroom, a little kitchen, a table and a couch and 2 chairs. The window faced right out onto the Atlantic. We had an unobstructed view to the water - it was amazing. It wasn´t a beach right there, there were these big rocks - but it was beautiful, and we sat out on the rocks that night with a few liters of beer..and then again the next morning to watch the sunrise. We actually slept that night...which is more than i can say for the next two nights!!
We spent lazy days on the beach, making sure not to burn (successfully might i add!). We bought our own food to cook a few times, but also partook in the excellent seafood served up in the restaurants there. We took in some street entertainment and walked around the artisan area where there is tons of jewellery and crafts and whatnot.
The first night was chill - some food and drinks with our new roomies...but
the second night - well it was my birthday at midnight..clearly a good reason to party!! January 31st started out with an absolutely HILARIOUS birthday song from the Swedes. In Swedish of course. And the three of us girls were just cracking up - the song kept going and going and going...and getting funnier and funnier the whole time! And it ended with the swedish version of ¨for she´s a jolly good fellow¨I have never heard anything like it. If you ever have a birthday and are aroudn crazy Swedes - definitely make sure they sing it. Because apparently everyone there knows it! That started the night out fabulously..and then we started playing Helmet Head. A great success. A little later (remember..nothing gets going til at least 1am) we headed out in search of this bar we had heard about...we walked down the beach..and eventually saw a bunch of disco ball type lights..and decided that must be where we were heading. The only problem was that there seemed to be a fence between us. The Swedes quickly decided that jumping it was clearly the logical thing to do. Until we found the path around. Silly boys. Short
La luna
beautiful moon from our spot on the rocks version of these two nights as follows...more details upon request 😉
This outdoor bar was basically our hangout for the next two nights. And when i say hangout, I really mean..where we worked (yup, we were definitely behind the bar mixing drinks, taking orders, getting tips..etc), danced (man i can´t get enough of this music), drank (i had a few specialty drinks up my sleeve..they were sort of hit or miss...), and had an all around amazing time. Adrienne, Callie, Car & Auto and I really ripped that place up!! It was awesome cuz it wasn´t more than like...20 people on either night. Intimate and interactive!!! It was a birthday I will never forget! So the first night ¨out¨ended up with us arriving back to the cabaña at about 530am..a little before the sunrise. And the second - the night OF the 31st...well. That one ended a little bit later. Basically..we ended up on an ATV (4x4) with one of the bartenders and his friend ripping around the dunes and the beaches. We went for a little 730am swim in the ocean...and hopped back on the machine for a ride back to our cabaña. Or so we thought. Both of
sunrise
we actually woke up for this first one..the other two were continuations of the night! the back wheels blew out...apparently the thing was made for 1 or 2 people...not 4!! So we had to WALK back...at basically 8am! And we were NOT close either. And we were soaking wet. And the sun was out, and it was already getting hot!! It was soo awesome though - tons of fun. We got back to our cabaña and definately hit the sack hard! We needed at least a few hours of sleep before we hopped back on the bus to get to the capital!
Like I say...a birthday I will remember forever. But of course I still missed being with family and friends for it. But I thought of you..even though I was having such an incredible time! I look forward to sharing ALL the photos when I get home!! More of Uruguay (Montevideo and Colonia) in the next blog 😊
It´s sort of funny that Uruguay gets 3 blogs all to itself! But it really deserves it!! I absolutely loved it there, and definately plan on returning. I am actually thinking that I want to live a year abroad there. So i can become truly Uruguayan!! I invite you ALL to come visit me
And then the sunrise the next morning
it has just occured to me that we were up for all three sunrises while in Punta del Diablo... when I decide to do this. I also suggest to you all if you plan on travelling...go to uruguay! Ok...three entries today..that should keep you all satisfied right?? for a little while i hope!! I´m in Buenos Aires right now..and off to some horse races this afternoon - so...chau for now!

So Jealous!
Uruguay sounds amazing. Be careful what you agree to! I'm a coming if you move for a year. Oh to be young(er) once more! We had an amazing week in Mexico, but pales by comparison. Love, the Italian Connection! PS Of course I'm late wishing you a happy birthday but we all send our love!
