We have just spent a week with APECA, a small grassroots NGO promoting health in some of the most basic communities, about 2hrs from Iquitos, which is a city in the middle of vast stretches of Amazon jungle. To get to Iquitos, it's either a slow 5 day boat ride, or an airplane, and we flew in! We had such a wonderful week at El Fondo, the base of APECA, seeing their projects in communities, and doing heavy farmwork. We particularly loved the tame baby wid pig, and a tame pale-winged trumpeter bird, both of which seemed to think they were dogs, needing petting and attention.

We came back into the Iquitos area to spend a week with a large US based NGO called People of Peru, that specialized is hosting many many teams that fy in from the US, nurses, doctors, dentist and church youth groups. There is currently a group of nursing students, and Lisa has been able to translate in several different situations, so it's been a great exposure for her.

Enjoy the photos. We are heading out into the jungle for another week, and then flying to Cusco next weekend, so we will catch up later.
