Oh Lima…this place is just so special in my heart. If we are on this site, it is because we love travelling….but life is not only about travelling, life is about our friends…our families…and our children…
Lima is way more than a place for me…even if I have to admit, it has some of the best food in the world. I may have been blogging only once or twice about Lima in the past, but I'm relating to a time way before I even joined travelblog.
Those who don’t know me would certainly be lost by now…and those who know me well are wondering…where is he going on a public site. Lima is about the story of the relationship between my children and I…way back in time.
You all know that I’m an happy single Dad today…Leslie joined me 6 years ago and that’s the time I started blogging on TB…than close to two years ago, Tiffany decided it was time to share the fun with Leslie…and decided to make her own move… For the past years, life took some bad turns…but mainly took some great turns…a way
to celebrate everyday about life…and my lovely children!
So why Lima is it so important to my heart? Well…not the food, but the friends. I’ll only name two, and excuse me not to go in details…but they are both on the pictures, Christophe and Pello….
Back then, and this is as long as 10 years ago, I came to Lima to “recharge”…to remind myself of what my goals were. Interestingly enough, this meant partying a lot, having great food…with friends who were not even close to have babies.
What is pretty interesting today, is that I come to the place that allowed me to keep focused…and fresh…with my two babies. But my two babies are not babies anymore, they are closer to be teenagers. What is even more interesting, is that beside one, none of my friends in Peru has had babies…so bringing Leslie and Tiffany here is some kind of closure for me, realizing how much of an happy Dad I am…and how life is way better with children…even if in Lima…those who helped me to become what we are today…didn’t really changed for the last ten years.
Let me tell you that Leslie and Tiffany had a great time in Lima, thanks to Christophe and Pello. You know the day you can look in your parent past…well…Leslie who is getting pretty matured by now got it this week…maybe…or let say the puzzle did get in shape for him…a little more.
Tiffany and Leslie arrived from Buenos Aires on Tuesday morning. I came in on Sunday, and had some serious work to catch up on the internet before they came in. I went to pick them up at the airport on Tuesday just before lunch, and we made our way to Punta Azul for our first Peruvian lunch…my two kids and I…for the best food in the world. Being 10 and 12, it was not a given that they would love it…I went bold…frozen jugo de maracuja, ceviche mixto and arroz con mariscos…and they loved it . I didn’t cry, even if I could have, I was just an happy Dad. Oh and no pisco sour!
Next day, Pello took us around for the all day. If you ever need a friend, who can double as a
guide, this is the man. Seems he is the godfather of more kids you and I can figure about it…he deserves all my admiration…every day!
We went around, and suddenly, Tiffany and Leslie were sharing the same love for that city…who kept me going years ago. Pello brought us for lunch to “La Buena muerte”…that’s a very basic restaurant, with amazing food. They show me to that place years ago. And for the last 6 years, I thought the place was closed…wrong was I…what a meal…with Pello, Leslie and Tiffany. Just before that, Pello brought us to the change of the guard. It’s maybe 20 visits to Lima for me, but I’ve never witnessed this. I guess I was more interested in pisco sour for aperitif in the past, but with Leslie and Tiffany…it’s a different game.
Then we went on to visit the catacombs at St Francisco…another first for me. How many times do I have to come to this city to have done it all…well…ever…Leslie loved it…Tiffany…not really! The sun was down, it was time for Christophe to join us…for a pisco sour at the Bolivar hotel…and back
to Miraflores after this. Pello, muchos gracias…there is not much I need to add.
Next day was a Thursday, and Murielle took the relay. It was lunch than ice cream…I’ve known Murielle for now around 15 years…yes…that long, from Saigon to Shanghai…when I told you friendships are important…and I know, it’s a small world.
Friday to Sunday was…well, you may have read the last entry. Than it was to Monday…meeting “JET”…the only guy I know with a child in Lima. Hadn’t seen him for years, but trust me, being a father makes you a different man…always for the best.
Tuesday…Christophe took it for Leslie and Tiffany, and he brought us to another first for me…a ride on a boat out of Callao…to swim with the sea lions. That was serious fun...and serious bonding with Leslie and Tiffany….just hoping we won’t have to wait too long for the next bonding experience. What a day, the pictures speak for themselves!
Than it was back to spend the day with Murielle, evening dinner with Pello and Jan, meeting his great girlfriend…and we were
already nearly off Lima…for more adventures…
Time flies…but the past stay. I may have turned a page with the visit of Leslie and Tiffany in Lima. By looking at the pictures, you will know that the food in Lima is out of this world…and there is way more than food! Most tourists don’t like Lima, because they will never meet the inside of it. Architecture is so so….security may be an issue…food is amazing….but if I come back here it is for my friends….only wishing they could also get a little on the road…crossing our paths…
Next entry is down in Cusco… for four pretty amazing days. I did plan with altitude sickness in mind for Tiffany and Leslie….keeping it pretty relaxed…the altitude was never an issue…so we did a lot…a lot more than planed…and a lot of fun.
You exist only because you are human, the day you become a father your life changes…sadly…not everything is always going to plan…remaining a proper father is great…building with your children a common bond through travelling is even better!
You only live
once, better be good! And thanks to my friends for their friendship!
