Hello People, Hmm sharing a dorm is great fun, especially when ur sharing with young boys!! ah well , its an experience! Especially when you are trying to sleep after a super long flight , and the threats of the boys that they are going to come and wake u up to have drinks!!! After the long needed shower and the peace that followed after the departure of our male co-habitants, we managed to sleep. Thank God it wasnt very hot, but both of us seemed to wake up a couple of times in the middle of the night especially when people were treading around us. its funny how sharing a room with a bunch of strangers makes you cautious not to disturb them. Anw we woke up pretty early, got ready after having breakfast, not ... read more

...So we had an early start from England, leaving our cousins appartment really early in the morning, arrived in Madrid (lovely airport- very colourfull) and from there we had to take a super long flight to come to our destination Lima Peru. Suprisingly so the flight was not bad, although it wasnt too comfy to be confined in a seat for a long time, Joanna stated that the quality of the airplane for a transatlantic one is very similar to the Cyprus Airways airplanes...hmm We had to wait for ages for our luggage,at moments thinking that they might not come, the longer u wait the more paranoid you get i suppose. So we come out of the customs and Joanna notices a car company, there were 2 desks but she went to the one that had a picture of ... read more

Having spent most of my day in Starbucks yesterday blogging, I decided that I really ought to try and see more of the former 'City of the Kings'. I had walked through Miraflores in the late afternoon sun yesterday to take in the air. It was an interesting suburb, much lusher and greener than other parts of the city I had seen when I arrived. I escaped what appeared to be 'Gringoville' surrounding the hostel and walked down Diagonal and La Valle to Parque del Amour. The park was filled with people all enjoying the warm weather on the weekend, and was surrounded by tall palm trees and well tended lawns and flower beds. A huge terracotta sculpture of two entwined lovers took pride of place at the parks centre, and from what I could see ... read more

We (Becca Berube) and I arrived into Lima, Peru around midnight on the 3rd. We got lucky and were able to catch the two flights that we needed from RDU to MIA and MIA to Lima. Going standby was a great success, especially since we got first class on the flight to Lima, though the plane was delayed by an hour and a half. I was worried that they would cancel the flight and everyone would move to the next flights, making us have to spend the night in Miami, but luckily that wasn't the case. Once we knew we would have a seat on the flight, Becca used her gmail account to call some hostels in Lima to put in a reservation for the night and to see if they knew an estimate for the ... read more

Peru has been an adventure so far! After our late night flight, we are greeted by Pisco Sours in our hotel and became fast friends! We spent a leisure ly day around Lima and then decided to get to the airport nice and early. I pulled out my stack of confirmations, organized by day (because I'm awesome like that) and handed it to the airline person. Typing. More typing.another person. More typing. "we don't have that flight." Chris and I, "?? But we have this reservation?" Typing, "we don't have that flight, but we will put you on lan, tomorrow". So hey, we were back in Lima. As we were driving back, chris was noticing the Pearl Jam billboards. Finally I spotted one too. "what is today?" "the 18th"... "I think that is what that sign ... read more

Ok. Deep breath. It all started at the airport in Cali, Colombia. Despite the fact that you can buy a one way ticket online through Avianca airlines, it was not good enough for the man at the check in counter, or actually the entire airline. We needed a ticket showing we were leaving Peru. No, this could not even be a bus ticket. It had to be a flight. Painted into a corner, we had to spend 1700 USD on a flight out of Peru (which we bought from the oh-so-conveniently placed Avianca office opposite the check in counter). This is apparently a South American law, although no one else asked us for tickets when we flew previously from Brazil to Colombia. And one would think that our flight back home from Sao Paulo would infer ... read more

Determination by Bus Whilst trying to get to the bus terminal in Trujillo my taxi driver decided to take me for a joy ride on the meter, assuming that I didn't know where the bus station was. This is a popular scam all across the world and a particularly irritating one in my opinion. I bailed on the taxi and jumped on a circle bus that would take me in the direction of the terminal. After a short while I realised that I had in fact jumped on a bus going in the wrong direction around the city and I was getting increasingly further away from my destination. During the previous evening I had heard from a friend who was going to be doing a crazy sounding cargo ship trip like me, but from a different ... read more

Hi there folks, here's my first blog entry. I flew to Lima, Peru on 24 Sept 2011 and have stayed in Miraflores for the past few days. On Sunday, I left the hostel to explore on foot. I was at Parque Kennedy and a guy asked me to take his picture, so I did. And he asked me if I was headed to the ocean and I said yeah. So we ended up walking around together for a few hours. His name is Freddie and he's from Paraguay. He only spoke Spanish so that was really good practice for me. On Monday, I went to some nearby ruins, Huaca Pucllana. And on Tuesday, I went to some other ruins south of Lima, Pachacamac. Today, I just walked around Miraflores more and bought a much needed belt. ... read more

Friday 23rd September We are sitting at the airport now awaiting our flight to Guayaquil. We will stay 2 nights there before flying to the Galapagos Islands. We think we have arranged a pretty decent cruise in Galapagos, and the last minute deals enable us to upgrade from tourist grade to a luxury grade catamaran for about the same price. Lets hope so anyway. Lima was the stop over we needed to charge our batteries. We booked a wonderful apartment in Miraflores for 5 days, which of course enabled us to cook every night. We have really missed that, so a good feed of steak and veg, pasta and garlic bread have left us feeling almost normal again. Our apartment also has a private elevator that opens directly on to our front door! We only spent ... read more

Well I caught the flight without a hitch came via Madrid to Lima, now for those who havent travelled with air Iberia there are pluses and minuses, the flight was packed and there were loads of kids, I also had some gross twat behind me who for some reason thought it would be a good idea to sneeze through the gap between my seats... not happy! The food was shite, because I´m a vegetarian they seemed to want to deprive me of all happiness, my main meal was rice and peas... not kidding just rice and just peas. No whilst the non vegetarian lady next to me was tucking in to her desert of treacle pudding next to me I was chowing down on 1 small piece of melon... nice. So a few hours later they ... read more
