Clinica Good Hope, Miraflores
I recommend this place for quick, effective and reasonably priced medical care. Well, yesterday was a fun day. I learned a new Spanish word,
marcapaso, which means pacemaker. I just had one of those installed in my chest about one week prior to leaving the States. It started oozing a little and Rose freaked out. She made me call my cardiologist using our Skype connection via the laptop (www.skype.com). Long story short, cardiologist said, "Get thee to the nearest emergency room or clinic and get checked out."
I walked to where I thought I had seen a clinic, asked a policeman where was a clinic (Look, I'm starting to think in Spanish.) and he gave me very precise directions to the Good Hope Clinic in Miraflores (http://www.goodhope.org.pe/) and I got an appointment for the same day at 2:20pm. Rose and I walked back to the clinic and checked in, very efficient process. Give a very brief medical history, your medical complaint and eighty soles (about 28 bucks). I actually got to see a cardiologist instead of a regular internal medicine doctor. He gave me the exact same advice the cardiologist who did the implant gave me, scolded me a bit for not listening to my wife, and gave me a prescription for
High Scary Bridge
Right by the Lover's park, it is a car and pedestrian bridge. Don't look down! 500mg ciprofloxin, 2X daily for two weeks. He said it was not infected but was inflammed. We went to a farmacia and bought the pills. One pill and I am already fixed, but I have to do the entire regimen. The doc scared the crap outta Rose (and maybe me just a little bit) saying that if the implant area does get infected, the whole shooting match has to be removed, including the leads that go to the heart muscle. Then the implant has to be made on the opposite side of the chest. He convinced me. "Rose, can you open this beer? I'm too weak."
On the way to the clinic, we crossed a very high bridge that makes you pray there will not be an earthquake while crossing it. We strolled over to
El Parque del Amor, the Lover's park, so named because of the huge statue of a man and a woman who should have gotten a room. I also took a couple of shots of the Lima skyline.
We went back to our apartment and realized we had forgotten to take our Claro cell phone (http://www.claro.com.pe/) and sure enough, our friends that we met
Lima Beach, Cliffs and a Little Bit of Skyline
An overcast day, as most are this time of year. (It's Winter in Peru.). on the Expat forum (http://www.expatperu.com/expatforums/index.php) had called us. Tom and Maribel had called so we redialed their number and SURPRISE, they were three blocks away. They had just arrived the day prior. I went down to meet them and Rose was cleaning the apartment like a mad woman. We had a great night drinking Cusquena beer, until we killed the six pack. Then we killed the poor little bottle of Peruvian wine we bought. We discovered that we would be on the same flight to Chiclayo, so that made us think there is maybe a little divine provenance going on. When they were ready to go, even though we ate a bunch of cheese, crackers and cheeps, we still needed a little something, so we walked back toward their hotel and went to Pepe's Antichuceria (a place where the main menu item is beef heart on a skewer.) (ANTICUCHERIA PEPE'S Av. Petir Touars 5428 - Miraflores Phones : (51) 4452225). Well, let's just say I opted out on the heart and ordered yakitori (chicken on a stick, Japanese style), as did Rose. Our friends are braver than us and had anticuchos. We walked them back to their hotel and called
