Edit Blog Post
The last few hours...or days...have been a kind of a rush. But the point is simple, I'de better write this blog, even in a rush...because on Thursday, we are back on the road...till early March! So my sincere apologizes for those who think I should limit myself to three blogs a month! Won't happen this time!
I have this love relationship with Lima and Peru. I've actually stopped to do an exact count, but as of today it must be something like twenty times in Peru. And when at immigration I'm asked the reason of my visit...the answer is easy...comida...pisco...y amigos! It gives me a huge smile...and a big stamp!
Most tourists hate Lima, and simply jump out of the city whenever they can. I still recon sending an email to Jason years ago (aka aspiringnomad), as we were both passing through Lima in a 24 hours window. His answer was, I hate Lima. My point is...Jason has no friend in Lima...and no love for one of the best food capital in the world...if not the best. Disclamer....few cities in the States or Hong Kong and Singapore are out of competition, they are way too
expensive...and food is actually...mostly not from there!
This entry is also a little special for me...not because of this entry about Lima...but because the next one...Tiffany and Leslie will indeed be with me here in early February 2013...and so we are preparing for them...drinking way too much pisco ahead of their arrival! Info...legal drinking age in Peru is not 10 years old...you have nothing to worry about...
Lima has always been in the past the place where I came...to kind of forget I didn't have proper access to my kids. This time, it's another time...and trust me, I savour every moment of it in 2012. Some look for their soul...I simply enjoy my little ones...truly...madly...deeply! Today!
So be ready for an interesting blog in Feb 2013...why...because most of my friends in Lima don't have kids....they simply have no idea what a pre-teen means...and it certainly doesn't mean pisco over pisco! It's going to be fun!
This blog is actually two trips to Lima. Two weeks ago I first landed at 12pm...lunch time...to leave at 3am in the morning...15 hours later. You've got no idea what you can do
in Peru in 15 hours...and this has clearly nothing to do with the "Hangover 2"...aka the movie! It has to do with amazing food...amazing friends...and few piscos on the way.
Next disclamer...my friends do produce their own pisco in Peru. This one is coming in huge jug, the size I'm used to get my filtered water in...Next disclamer...women in Argentina may be attractive, they are unable to smile...making them...not attractive...women in Peru are not attractive...with or without a smile...there is always the pisco! I know, I'm not going to make friends here!
I landed at 12pm...got through immigration fast...and to my friends place by 1pm. Time for lunch, but at 3pm, we had to leave for the "fiesta del Toro"...so we did delivery...delivery of the best food in the world. Pisco sour don't come by delivery...my friends are experts...food is shipped in...pisco sours are made on the premises...point!
Next, the corrida. Let me be honest and frank. You may not like it, this is ok, I accept. This is my second corrida in Lima, and I really appreciate it....maybe also, because each seasons, which is around 6 Sundays here per year...they
may "save" one bull...and this may be my second time in 10 years...but this time too....a bull will simply live old in a pasture....well...actually producing further little ones....
My first corrida in Lima was something special 10 years ago....a personal closure thousands of miles away. As I'm in coded messages...we may keep it simple...next time...
This time the price had gone up...but we had the best possible seats. There are no tourists here...not a single one...it's purely people in the know...way in the know...ok, I had no idea who that lady was...but they all knew!
We enjoyed the corrida....eating while other were dancing after...many more drinks...and it was time to retrieve to my friend place...for the wine I had brought...before I was ready to head back to the airport....point to note...last night was short...comin night...forget about it!
So after Panama, back to Lima for 48 hours...some more wine in my bags...
Arrived on a Thursday night! Trying to stay nearly relax...is 5 hours sleeping a night the norm? Morning working with finally a proper internet connection! Long lunch with my friend Murielle from Shanghai...than jump
for a drink to the next Barrio with Jan and a sunset...than on for Christophe back in Miraflores with few more friends...only in Lima...do you go from aperitif...to lunch...to aperitif...to dinner...never a boring moment!
Another day in Lima is gone...not one for the kids...but one that I enjoy!
Next morning, we slept...that's something amazing for me...there is either diving or school...but these lazy morning become rare...
We went for lunch to a top cevicheria...thanks Ellias! Than in Surco...was a fiesta of pisco...if you had no idea what does this means...it means...pisco and friends...thanks Pello! Next stop...shopping for asado...than on to Danny place...last time I saw him...was his wedding night...today he has two kids...guess time is passing by...some get olders...so do get family...in Lima...it's always about a great time!
And sooner than I fought, it was time to get to the airport...and one more time in Lima, I nearly missed my flight!
But put it simple...Lima means friends...and a big share of my personal past!
Coming next...a lot...first, way south from Buenos Aires! It may be summer time...if the weather forecast is right....the
next entry should have been about so golf...but it's going to be about...a lot of freezing wet should have been summer but feel like winter entry. But for now, it's 32 in sunny Buenos Aires!
