Thursday (Sep. 22nd)
It was raining this morning so I am trying to figure out which of the 5 billion bus companies go to the street where Casa Acogida is, but all the ones I asked said no. So I will have to figure that out a different way. I ended up just taking the bus I normally do into town and then walking to Casa Acogida like we did when we were doing the diverse program. I learned from yesterday and arrived a bit later so the girls were just hanging out and listening to music when I got there. I listened with them for a while and then made them join me for some exercise before we did some salsa again (there were 3 new girls that I helped teach like last time.) Today is Dia de el Joventud (day of the youth) so tonight they are having a party and they invited me to come back for it, with cake or cookies of course. Sadly, I never ended up going to the party. I had eaten the guacamole yesterday and I think that is what gave me diarrhea again, so I didnt go to San Judas this afternoon or the party this evening. I felt bad bailing on the girls at Casa Acogida so I think I will bring some cookies with me tomorrow morning.
Friday (Sep. 23rd)
The cookies were a success! When I got there the girls wanted to eat the right away, but I made them wait until after we did exercises so that they would all participate. I ended up staying a little past my hour time slot today, I was just hanging out with the girls and talking while they ate their cookies, it was a lot of fun and I am getting to know them better which is great. This afternoon I worked again with the two little girls at San Judas and they focused really well so we got quite a bit done in their books. I left a little early from the orphanage to go home because I had to pack for my weekend trip! Brittany (the new volunteer) and I are going to Arequipa this weekend to do the 2 day Colca Canyon trek and to see the city. We leave tonight on the 8 pm bus and arrive in Arequipa at 6 am tomorrow. Tonight was also Vivi' s last night here so there were some sad goodbyes, but I hope I can go visit her in Germany sometime!
