The alarm went off at 4am and I got up ready to be picked up and driven to Mollepata village, the starting point of the Salkantay Trail. Thanks Kate. Yes it was pretty special. Machu Picchu itself isn't that high but the Salkantay trail takes you quite high, and similar for the official Inca trail I think. You just need a few days in Cusco to acclimatise. The people who had issues didn't do that. x
