Well it has been an interesting week since eoghan arrived. The start of the week i showed him round the town a bit. The markets are good here but you cant buy everything you want, not enough room in luggage!! We went out for dinner on Eoghan’s first day, alpaca tastes good, but the americans we were with were a bit intense!!
We moved into our wee flat on Tuesday, so comfortable. On Wednesday we went out with the girls from newcastle, it was Heather’s birthday. The club was a bit dodgy from the start, with some pervert wains at the door. I got very drunk as the drinks seemed to get stronger in the club! But it was a grand night as far as I could tell!
Thursday was a lazy day, mostly because of the hangover!
Friday we felt we had to do something, so we went up to the ruins above Cusco Saqsahwayman. They were pretty good, with slides and caves and ruins and all. Walking through the cave was pretty scary, it got pitch black and we had to use eoghans phone as a torch. Some random girl went through the cave with us, her friend back
out and when we came out the other side it took her a while to find him again! On the other side of the cave was this tiny peruvian woman who laughed when she saw eoghan “Gringo!” And she made her family take a photo of her with him!! We had a good laugh with them! Then we walked over to the white Jesus, seems that every major city gets a big jesus on the hill!
On Friday night, we went to watch the Peru v Mexico match, it was a good one. Peru won!! Eoghan told me he thinks the altitude has removed his ability to whistle. Too much coca leaves i think!
On Saturday, we went round town to book some trips. We booked a wee day trip to Moray and Moras Salt mines for the next day and a jungle/hotsprings/cycle/hike to Maccu Piccu for 2 weeks time-sooooo excited about that! We then walked up to Queko ruins, which were really good. Big caves and stuff and quite peaceful. We tried to walk to the next ruins, apparently they are only a few miles away but after walking for half an hour we decided they are
too far away and got the collectivo back to Cusco. Saturday night was a quite one in because we were getting up early on Sunday to go to Moray.
Sunday didn’t start very promising, the bus was at least half an hour late. So we were a bit worried. As we got closer to Moray, the roads got a bit ropey to say the least. The bus got a flat tyre, then the jack wouldn’t work, then the jack of another minibus that stopped wouldn’t work. We were getting pretty worried by this stage, we were in the middle of no where.
Then a truck drove past, they offered us a lift. So we all got in the back of this pick up truck and got a lift to the ruins. I have to say we were well loured to get in this truck with all the other tourists and a few chainsaws and axes-not sure what these truck people did!
Moray was pretty impressive, it was a farming centre for Incas, with these cool terraces. We got lots of photos there. When we got back up to the car park out bus was back on the go
again and we went to the Salt mines near Moras. We lost a lot of time with the flat tyre nightmare so we didnt get much time there but they were pretty cool looking. Some of them were solid and you could walk over them. From what we could gather the water evaporates off and you get left with solid salt, or something.
The drive back was just over an hour, but the scenery was beautiful. The snow capped mountains are truely breathtaking, i wish i had a better camera so I could show you all how gorgeous they are.
That brings us up to now, we are currently wayching big lebowski in the flat, tv is good here! I’m working in the clinic all this week so we might only manage a few short trips in the afternoon but we really enjoyed this weekend! The other girls from Newcastle get back from Maccu Piccu this week so we can see how they got on too. I’ll try and send some postcards this week too!
oh aye, do not go for tapas ever here. completely ripped off. We ordered these 4 tapa dishes, and they were so small, it
was like 4 bits of sushi, and it was like a tenner altogether! I was fuming, we had to get a pizza afterwards.
