Three guys, ten days, a road-trip, and finally an arduous hike, rewarded by an incredible ruin and some breathtaking scenery. Off the Beaten Track!
How fine that you went exploring, and I love these llamas in the terrace walls--I've never seen them. Have to say, I can't imagine those bare feet in the snow--what adventures!

Llamas del Sol
As far as I know those llama depictions in the wall are unique to Choquequirao. You donĀ“t find them on any other Inca structure anywhere else.

Me want too!!
Wow, you guys! What a trip. I am sooo jealous! I hope we can do it too one day. I am going to start training the kids, so they can make the hike when we eventually get to visit Jan!! The scenery is amazing, the history of the places you visited is so interesting and how lovely that you could do it together. What a great memory! Lots of love, Linn

You have lots of hikes you can do in Switzerland
So, I think you will be able to train your kids easily. See you soon! Love Ralf

Mountain Folk
Did you solve the most important riddle of these mountain folk... Why did they build huge quantities of tall terraces with tiny crop areas and build towns on the relatively flat bit at the top? I personally would try and do it the other way. The ox moves slow but I bet you it moves slower on an Andian hillside!

Ceremonial centres
Most of the famous sites of the Inca's, the one on the mountain tops were not towns, but ceremonial centres. There were people living there, but probably never many, and most of them priest or nobility, and a few farmers and so on. The terraces possibly only had to support a small population, and the crops might have been only used in ceremonies while the rest was brought over road from other more productive farmlands in the empire. That is my solution to the riddle anyway...
