It must be the “Altitude”. I’ve come up with a small list of things that we all keep blaming on the altitude.
1. Excessive eating
2. Afternoon nap
3. Excessive snaking
4. Late afternoon nap
5. Only having the energy to read a good book
6. Shopping
7. Excessive Shopping
8. What did you just say?
9. Head ach
10. Tripping over nothing and then blaming the Peruvian side walks.
11. Weight gain
12. Everyone has taken up knitting
13. Drinking Vino on the roof in the evenings
14. I can’t remember what I was saying
15. HAFE (High Altitude Flatulence Expulsion)

On Thursday (25th)afternoon I went to the old folk’s home with Sue. It was great. Most all the elders speak only Quchiawn. The language barrier didn’t seem to matter. I just sat with them and held their hands and listened to them babble. They are so full of love. They live with a group of nuns and are very well taken care of. It is the nicest facility that I have seen down here. It was grandparents’ week last week and several groups of students came by to visit with the elders. You really can see the

respect that they have for them. It was an absolutely wonderful way to spend the afternoon!

On Friday (26th) at the clinic Dr Arcadio had the day off and the clinic had a lady Doctor. Unfortunately I did not get her name. She was very complete with her examinations and used more medical terms in her charting, therefore, I was able to decipher her writings very well. She also let me assist in her exams. It was a good hands on day. We had two different men come in with cuts that need suturing. It was good to see her technique. We also had one lady who had a reaction to her medication. She was just really week from dehydration and needed rest. All’s well.

Today (27th) I am going to help with a river clean up. Lynn, from Seattle, is doing an internship and has been teaching the importance of clean water. It will be a nasty job, but it needs to be done! So I best get going……..

Ciao, Machelle
