South America Bound

Knoxville - Orlando - Miami - Port of Spain - Georgetown

I woke up at the horrible hour of 3:45 a.m. I was barely ready when Dad picked me up at 4:45 to catch our 7 a.m. flight. Leslie drove us to the airport where we met up with Stan Brock, a very nice English jack-of-all-trades. He is the one responsible for starting RAM. He’s been a real South American cowboy, movie/TV star, pilot, and more I am sure. We flew from Knoxville to Orlando to Miami where we met up with three women: Dr. Becky, med student Nicole, and Judy (who is with Wings of Hope, not RAM). We all had some lunch and then boarded the plane somewhere around 3 p.m. We stopped at Trinidad/Tobago airport and dropped off/picked up some folks and then made our way to Georgetown, the capital of Guyana. Sheldon Seabra, a Guyanese native who served as our taxi driver, drove us to the hotel. We arrived about 12:30 a.m. at the hotel and went to bed. Our hotel is called Windjammer. There are 3 stories. The first floor is the restaurant. The other 2 are rooms. I think there are around 8. I haven’t counted. We are on the third floor in room 213. Dr. Becky and Nicole are in room 317 on second floor. Go figure. The rooms are actually pretty nice. Running water, electricity, TV, mini fridge, microwave, remote controlled AC… it would probably be about 15 bucks a night in a little US town.
