On Friday we hosted an afternoon of games for the kids in the neighborhood. It was a pretty hectic day but turned out well. We spent most of the morning blowing up balloons (thank goodness our host dad had a painting machine that we could use to put air in them) and cutting up fruit for fruit salad.

We started setting up outside around 1:30 and we were planning on starting at 2. Precisely at 2 the sun came out, which doesn´t happen all that often this time of year. The kids generally stay inside when the sun is out because it gets so hot. Around 2:15 two little girls that we know showed up and we asked them to get their friends. By 2:30 we had about 60 kids in the playground with us.

We split them up into teams and each of us 4 volunteers had a team to lead. We played various relay games. In one they had to fish a marble out of a tub with water in it with their foot and then run back to the line. We had another where they had to pop the balloons and then just a running race. We tried playing Simon Says but it was too difficult with so many kids. After the games we gave each kid some fruit salad and took pictures. Many of the kids hugged and thanked us. 😊

After running around with the kids for 2 hours, our host moms decided we should play some soccer. It was really fun playing with the host families and some other kids from the neighborhood, but it was definitely an exhausting day.
