Dear All Greetings from Ecuador! This is my country number 80 – yay! Quite a significant number really! And as I believe I mentioned in a previous blog entry, if you don’t count the three little countries in the north-east of the continent, this completes my visit of every country in South America!! It is great to be in a new country again, as although I explored new parts of Peru, it didn’... Read Full Entry

Fun with Sea Lions
We have lots of sea lions here on the coast, but I've never been swimming with them - what a fun adventure! Good for you for doing something you were a bit scared of - now you're all set for the Galapagos. Sounds like you've had an amazing several days (love the street art) and some nice hotels to relax in!

Sea Lions!
Thank you for this Lori ? The sea lions were really friendly, inquisitive and very cute! Thank you for your comment on challenging fears. I think I really learnt something from this, and I had much more confidence to snorkel in the Galapagos because of it. I feel I've done well with my accommodation so far ?

An epic trip
So glad Alan pointed you in the direction of the sea lions. That sounds like a life experience not to be missed. You've made some good choices in bookings on this trip.... Even in the dodgier parts of town. Good food, arts, riverside walks and great people. Glad you had a bit of luxury mid-trip.

Epic!
Indeed, this has really been an amazing trip so far! Definitely grateful to Alan for the sea lion experience, I wouldn't have known about it otherwise! Indeed, it was a bit of a mid-trip pamper for me, lol! Now back in the four-star hotel in Guayaquil for one more night of luxury after the Galapagos! ?

Great Adventure!
Sounds like your trip has been an excellent adventure and I look forward to reading your latest blogs on the Galapagos. A few things you wrote about 'ring a bell' with me -- I remember using Green's taxis to reach our hotel in Lima's Miraflores a few years ago. (Also ever since seeing "Jaws" I've had a fear of the ocean!) I noted you mentioned being a member of the Travelers Century Club! Do you attend meetings? I will be applying for provisional membership for my husband and myself very soon -- a birthday present I'm giving myself! At number 70 (not counting airport stopovers) on the TCC list, with 3 new destinations booked over the next 12 months. Doubt we'll ever break 100 but we feel lucky to see the places we've seen so far.

Adventure ?
Thank you very much for your lovely comment. It's good to hear someone else has shared similar travel experiences to me, especially the Jaws thing! Great to hear you'll soon be joining the TCC. I highly recommend it. I try to go to the meetings in London when I can, though sometimes they occur when I'm travelling! I love the camaraderie of the club though. They count airport stopovers as having "visited" a country, with their "boots on the ground" criteria. So you may well have reached provisional status already! Maybe see you at a meeting sometime ?
