Dear All Greetings from Quito, capital city of Ecuador, and at 2,850 metres above sea level, itโ€™s the second highest capital city in the world (after La Paz, Bolivia, at 3,640m). I arrived here after a comfortable 3.5 hour bus journey from Riobamba on Friday afternoon, although things havenโ€™t really quite turned out as I expectedโ€ฆ My plan was to do Quito on Saturday, visit the nearby Cotop... So sorry you got sick :(
Hi Alex, so sorry to hear you were sick in Quito. I think we've all been there at one time or another while travelling. I was flat out for a day in Turkey, and I quite vividly remember the night of many trips to the squat toilet in the homestay in Cambodia (luckily I was fine the next day). Anyway, glad you had the nice hotel to recover in and you are better now. It must have been disappointing to have missed the things you had planned in Quito, but as you say, these things happen while travelling. Enjoy the rest of your trip in Lima!

Travel Sickness
Thank you Lori, I really appreciate this. They must have been awful experiences for you also in Turkey and Cambodia. It is at least reassuring for me to know I'm not the only one, and to be reminded that this is a part of the travelling game... I'm sure I'll enjoy my final days in Lima, but I am looking forward to going home again now ๐Ÿ˜Š

Sorry to hear about your illness...
and happy that you recovered fairly quickly. I also enjoy staying at Ibis Hotels and the others in the Accor chain...a good place to recover! And at leaset you were able to see some of Quito.

Thank you Bob
Thanks Bob! I appreciate the words. I guess one has to face these ill times if one travels a lot in these places. Yay - glad to know there's another fan of Ibis Hotels and the Accor chain! A stalwart fallback of a hotel chain in times of need! ๐Ÿ˜Š

Hate getting sick on the road
Your traveling days are not over and you can do it in the future if you feel like coming back. Thanks for taking us along!

Sick in the Road
Indeed, it's not nice. It seems to be something we all face once in a while. I'm feeling so much better now in Lima ๐Ÿ˜Š

Oh no!
Oh no! so sorry to hear about your illness. I am gutted for you but agree it's part and parcel of world travelling. Glad to hear you're ok and got to see some parts of Quito.

So sorry to hear you got sick in Quito but it sounds/looks like you made the most out of your time there! I wholeheartedly agree with some of the others -- getting sick while traveling is the worst!! I got very sick in Peru and had to spend a whole day in a clinic so missed a great day of sights (Moray & Moras). But I got very good care there! Hope you're feeling so much better now.

Thank you
Thank you! I'm feeling so much better now, and have really enjoyed these last few days in Lima ๐Ÿ˜Š Looking forward to going home now ๐Ÿ˜Š Sorry also to hear of your sickness in Peru, it is indeed one of the not-so-nice things about travelling. Glad to read you got such good care too.

Ups and Downs
Just looked through your Galapagos photos - amazing wildlife! Darwin and the Galapagos Islands were central to a lot of my undergrad studies, so I really want to make it there at some point. Sorry to hear about you getting sick - it sucks when that happens, but we just have to roll with it as best we can.

Galapagos
Thanks Ren and Drew. The Galapagos were a real highlight for me, the wildlife was just so incredible. I highly recommend a visit there to anyone interested. Thanks for your words on getting sick on the road, I guess indeed part and parcel of the travel thing...!
