Sunday 11.7.2010 day 270 Fly to Galapagos Baltra We got up at 5:30 had bfast and then meet the bus that took us to the airport for our Early flight to Baltra, in the Galapagos Islands. We meet our naturalist guide and saw seals, sea lions and pelicans then we transferred to the g1 our boat. Galapagos Islands
The Galapagos Islands are the most incredible living museum of evolutionary changes, with a huge variety of endemic species (birds, land and sea animals, plants) and landscapes not seen anywhere else. http://www.galapagos-islands-tourguide.com/

During World War II, Baltra was established as a US Air Force Base. Crews stationed at Baltra patrolled the Pacific for enemy submarines, and protected the mouth of the Panama Canal. After the war the facilities were given to the government of Ecuador. Today the island continues as an official military base. http://www.surtrek.com
