I am struggling to find words to describe our Galapagos experience. It is something we have wanted to do for many years; now it is over but we have unforgettable memories. These are "repossessed" giant tortoises; formerly household pets. The variety of shells resulted from adapting to differing conditions from island to island.

The south side of Santa Cruz is remarkably lush compared to the other islands. I was totally drenched but fascinated with these enormous animals that are lucky to cover 1 km in a day.

This land iguana seems to be eyeing the nest of a swallow tailed gull.

We have seen many prickly pear bushes before but never in tree form. They adapted over the years to avoid being eaten by tortoises and iguanas. The bark breaks away if an iguana attempts to climb it.

You are right about the Galapagos. Spectacular. I have a good story about Post Office Bay that I will share with you when you return. Just returned from Belize to -40c temps.
