Mud!!
This is a picture os me!!!!!!!! Once we had beached our raft we all stepped out and the guides thought it would be funny not to tell us that it was very muddy. I got so stuck! Well hello there,
its been nearly a week since i've written a blog so a few things have happened.
On Tuesday I met up with the group of people I did rafting last weekend before they headed back to Quito. We firstly headed out for dinner. It was seriously posh, nearly the poshes restaurant I have ever been to but with the prices of Mc Donalds!!! My Meal was $5! Anyway, they had a sloth which just hang out on the ceiling which was pretty cool!
I found out on Tuesday that I had a longer holiday than expected and that Thursday and Monday were also no school days. As I had only admired the rainforest from a distance I thought It was about time I took a trip into it. Thursday I went on a jungle trip with a Australian guy and a Swedish Guy. It wasn't to see animals in particular as we weren't travelling that far in but the aim was waterfalls and lagoons. We firstly took a hike through the rainforest and then up a stream. Our guide was really good and pointed out a lot of different plants and their uses. It was
Guide
This is one of the safty kayakers, Ben, he's been on all of my rafting trips and also was my guide on my jungle trip, good friends!!! a lot of fun and we had to use ropes to climb up the waterfalls and then you would reach another pool and then another waterfall and it went on until we reached a much bigger one which was cool to look at but it wasn't for climbing! We spent the rest of the day at a large lagoon where there was like a waterslide but completely natural. It was a good day.
Friday was yet again another rafting trip!!!!!!!
I had booked myself on this trip when I had got back from the jungle trip. I then spent a bit of time in Tena central area and then headed home. I washed my river smelling clothes (!) and then I was called for dinner. The family who I am with always seem to have some part of their extended family around, especially for dinner. Bilma was asking how the trip was going and just asking about the day, and so I told her as much as I could. She then went on to say that there would be no breakfast tomorrow and whether that would be alright for me. I thought, I'll just get some in town
My street!
This is an evening shot of my road. The house is just on the left. before I go rafting, no problem. She then went on to say that the reason we were not having any breakfast was because we were going to have a hugh lunch, and that it was traditional as they were Catholic and all that. The thing is, that I still hadn't told her that I was out tomorrow and there was me sitting at the head of the table concentrating very hard on understanding the spanish and I couldn't get a word in egde ways. She didn't stop talking! She got up and was showing me the fish we were having and the special fruit which was special for tomorrow. It was one of those conversations that you wished you had said something at the beginning but as the conversation went on it was getting harder and harder to say anything!! I really didn't want to try and explain in front of all the family (i'm talking, Aunties, Uncles, cousins and grandparent!!) so I tries to grab Bilma after dinner but I popped to my room and when I came back they had closed the doors and as good as gone to bed! so, it ended up that I had to
Another cute picture!
This is a picture of Heather (again!) and her friend that lives next door. tell them in the morning. A whole big saga but it was ok, I just apologised for not saying anything. They saved me the special fruit though for dinner. It turned out to be like a pune just with like seeds in the middle and a lot bigger, i'm not the biggest fan of punes but they were alright!
The rafting trip was a different river and was class 4. We were suppose to be doing the same river as my first rafting trip but the water level was very very low and we would have got stuck a lot. They don't usually do this river as there is an hour and a half portage around a huge rapid which you could not raft though, but it was cool for me to do a a different trip. It was also very remote. We reached primary rainforest and the views were amazing. The majority of the trip was through a massive canyon so there was rainforest either side of you. We saw some wild life, mostly parrots - and there wasn't just one, but they flew in flocks. I was in a raft with 2 Americans, and 2 Austalians and
river
This is one of the small river that is very close to the house where I am staying. then me and the guide. There was one other raft which had another Australian guy in and three Swedish Guys. In the whole day of pretty huge rapids only one person fell out (only once!) and suprise, suprise, it was me!!! I think it was because I was working the hardest (!) and wasn't concentrating enough to what the guide was saying. So when he said 'hold on', I was still paddling away, well not for long anyway!! We decided to get to the end point and then have a late lunch. The place we stopped at was a small jungle town and its attraction is the fact it has a load of smallish monkeys that live in the town. Cool to watch but they were more interested in our lunch!
Unfortunately I couldn't get myself on any kayaking trips as being a solo traveller, companies can't really have trips with only one person on it. Anyway, it was fun to do some more rafting though and i met a load of other people.
Anyway, Although its Easter sunday Today, there doesn't seem much going on. I was watching the news yesterday and there seemed to be a
street 2
the peach coloured building on the left hand side of this picture is the house. big parade in Quito but on Good Friday.
I am definately missing, sofa's, hot showers, chocolate (Easter eggs) and the roast dinner which I'm sure many of you tucked into today!!! Oh well, I heading to a place called Baños next weekend to hopefully do some cycling so I hope for a hot shower there. The place is actually well known for its natural baths which apparently reach very high temperatures.
Love Kez
