Gisteren zij we de Chimborazo vanaf 4800 meter afgedaald per bike,een tocht van 7 kilometer langs over een zandweg langs steile rotsen.Daarna een downhilltocht van 50 kilometer door het meest ongeloofelijke spectaculaire landschap wat je je maar voor kunt stellen,beide uiteraard zadelpijn maar zeer voldaan.Op dit moment zijn we in Latacunga,vanwaar uit we de meerdaagse tocht gaan ondernemen naar de Latacunga Loop, een tocht van enkele dagen rond een kratermeer met zeer authentieke dorpjes erom heen verspreid.Vandaag een rustdag ingelast en Latacunga bekeken. So, we finally left Quito and started our journey toward Peru, through much smaller places. I have to admit that I didn´t really like Quito, I think none of us did. We did some nice things there, but the city is huge and very polluted (every bus that goes near you leaves you choking with thick black smoke). I´m having much more fun since we left it for smaller places with more nature around. Two days ago we packed our things and took a bus to Mindo - a small village about 2.5 hours from Quito, surrounded (according to the guide book) by cloud forest. Die Zeit an der Schule liegt nun hinter uns. Die erste Ferienwoche allerdings auch. Nachdem wir am Freitag Abend noch einmal das Nachtleben von Guayaquil genutzt haben, fuhren wir (Kathrin, Micha und Jana) am Samstag nach Latacunga. Am Sonntag machten wir eine Tour zum Cotopaxi. Leider kamen wir nicht so nahe heran, wie uns unser Guide das versprochen hatte. Aber es war eine schoene Wanderung (inklusive Bad in einer heissen Quelle). Am Abend waren wir allerdings alle drei von Kopfschmerzen geplagt, denn die Hoehe (bis zu 4600m) war fuer uns "Guayaquileños" doch gewoehnungsbeduerftig. Am naechsten Tag machten wir mit zwei anderen Maedels aus Deutschland, die wir auf der Tour vom Vortag kennen gelernt hatten, eine Wanderung um die Quilotoa-Lagune. Amis campesinos bien l'bonjour!! Premières impressions fermières : le chocolat au lait fraichement sorti de "Betsie" est sublime!!!! Vous l'avez donc compris, Betsie est notre vache, le seule et l'unique. La vie campesina a débuté pour moi mardi soir chez René et Soraya, et je me régale comme une petite loutre!! Au travail dès mercredi matin 7h30, je rencontre mes 2 collègues équatoriennes qui travaillent là en permanence : Elsa (la jefe) et Blanca (qui travaille avec son petit bébé de 3 mois, parfois sur son dos, parfois à quatre pattes dans les cultures, du jamais vu en France et c'est la classe!). i wanted to climb this peak and, once again, since i was going solo I was charged a premium price $100, instead of $80 which would have been the effective rate if there´d been two or more people. going alone with the guide is always preferred, inspite of the price, because the hiking/climbing is only on your own pace, rest stops as well. It turned out that there was another person who went with us and don´t even think that i might have been reimbursed for the ¨solo premium¨.
