This morning when we woke up one of the four guys in our group was feeling sick. He decided he wanted to go to the hospital and so went back to Riobamba. We later found out that he went back to Quito and then home because he felt that he didn’t trust the accuracy of the malaria tests in the hospitals in Quito. He had been travelling in Ecuador prior to our trip and had been in places that had malaria and wasn’t taking any medication. We never heard anything about him so we assumed he ended up being alright. The night before was entirely a travel day from Tiputini back to Quito where slept for the night. This morning we got up early and got onto a bus. Our professor David came with us from Tiputini and was going to go with us to the highlands. First we stopped at Riobamba. There is a new university there and we got a tour of it and then we got lunch. After David took us all to a little store that sold mitts and hats and scarves which we all bought because we would need it in the mountains. We all got back onto the bus and finally got to our destination of Chimborazo, a volcano. Chimborazo is Ecuador’s highest peak. It is considered to be inactive.
