When we first got to South America it was pretty much what we expected. Venezuela was crazy and crowded, and me and katie didnt think too much of what we saw there, so its a good thing we was only there for 3 days! although on the third day we felt we had made a mistake even coming to Venezuela!!! But all worked out and luck was on our side. Me and Katie were extremly happy to finally cross the border and get into Colombia, the whole vibe of the place was completely opposite of that in Venezuela. The people of Colombia seem very chilled out and kind. When we first got to Santa Marta in Colombia we only planned to stay two nights....that somehow turned into 5 nights, followed by another 2 nights in the small fishing village near Santa Marta called Taganga. In this time we took a trip to see the Carnival and also we saw the Tayrona National Park. The national park looked amazing so me and katie decided to go and stay there for a while. We stayed 2 nights and then headed back to Taganga for a further 3 nights.'We then booked and embarked on
easily the most challenging experience of our lives. It was a 5 day trek to a place known as Cuidad Perdida (The Lost City) When we booked me and katie thought this would be a lovely walk through the jungle simular to the national park we had visited. We were very wrong. The trek was though the jungle, so our surroudings were amazing, but the trek was either an up hill battle, or a steep slide downhill!! This was extremmly difficult and we had to walk well over 40km of this. Apart from all the painfull walking up and down hill, this trek was also the best thing we have done, the sense of achivement we both got from not only getting to the Lost City (beautiful place) but also making it back aswell!! At the moment we are in Taganga, we both realise that according to our planned schedual we should be in Ecuador right now....but this is such a nice place we found it hard to leave!! however we are heading to Cartagena today and really need to get a move on! We have both decided that since we are so short of time that we will skip
out planned tour of Ecuador (we will pass trough like we did in Venezuela) and also completely skip Chile, which we are both gutted about since we have met some nice people from Chile who highly recommend it. We will go another time. So our plan for Colombia is as follows. Cartagena, Medellin, Bogota, San Agustin. We will then pass through Ecuador and Spend a month or so in Peru, we will then see Bolivia, after that we plan to see as much of Argentina as possible. In theory this sounds nice and easy, but as we have found with Santa Marta and Taganga, its so easy to get stuck somewhere like this!!
We will try and keep the blogging up and also upload more pictures. It has been an amazing journey so far uncomparable to any other i or katie has been on! We just hope it remains this way!!!
