I have been quite busy lately, going out a lot, hanging out a lot with my friends.. I try to keep myself busy and enjoy the time I have left here... I try not to waste one single weekend and go to as many touristy places as possible, but at the same time I try to keep up with my Spanish classes, my Writing Classes (a mandatory workshop offered by Eafit), at the same time write my blog and, in a nutshell, enjoy the remaining time with my friends. Last weekend , as it was a Puente, I went with some friends to San Jeronimo and Santa Fe de Antioquia and it was a brilliant outing. It was so much fun, we did some sightseeing, had some traditional food in Santa Fe, visited some churches. ... read more

I have been asking myself lately why I just don't feel like leaving..I just DON'T WANT TO LEAVE COLOMBIA...why the thought of leaving is affecting me more than I would have ever expected...it is much more than just scary ...it is painful....so, after wracking my brains out, I reached a conclusion... I am going to share it with all of you out there , wondering why Colombia has such a strange, almost mystical power, overwhelming, that once you get here you fall madly in love with her and there is no way back, you simply don't want to leave her! And what is even stranger is that it is an acquired taste, it catches you by surprise and it overwhelms you step by step, it ain't love at first sight, no,not at all! You LEARN to ... read more

a rainy Saturday...I had classes from 8 to 12... I love my Saturday classes, I might have mentioned it before...the students are relaxed, although they wanna be out of there at 11.30, they still do their best to work and put effort into what they do...I have 12 students, a few much older than me, in their thirties, forties, thirty y pico...:), Spanglish...oh well...anyways everybody Spanglishes in the language center, there is not even one soul who speaks only English or only Spanish inside or outside class...my Spanish has come a long way...I feel I have improved a lot...I am taking Spanish again after quitting a month ago. The teacher is not great, but I enjoy the group. Theyº re fun, we laugh a lot, a guy showed up drunk in class, mumbling God knows what ... read more

Finally I got to see it. The famous Pueblito Paisa. And I must hand it to the people who advertise it as if it were the best thing in Medellin, it is one of the nicest places to visit indeed. It is basically what the name anticipates: a miniature of a typical Colombian village. It is tiny and beautiful, it has a small church, a tiny city hall, the mayerºs house, an ancient barberºs shop,an old school, which is actually only a classroom with desks,an old board from the ancient times when they still used chalk to write, the town square and small tiendas selling souvenirs for the tourists. You can see the women cooking outside traditional paisa dishes, such as natilla, gelatina de pata, which are ¨postres¨-traditional dessert... Pueblito Paisa is on the top of a ... read more

Pablo Escobar...the all-times drug lord...the big time mobster .... the coke king having his very own kingdom- Medellin Cartel, Colombia. I donºt know to how many people this name rings a bell, but for sure that if you heard it mentioned only once, you canºt easily forget it. You associate Pablo Escobarºs name with crime, violence, terror, bombs, killing, more killing and the list is endless. Strangely enough, some loved him. Plenty hated his guts. Poor people of Medellin and Envigado adored him. He was the one giving them jobs , money, even houses. The man gave them what the state never could. For free. Can you blame them for sticking up for him?? He was a traffic dealer, the biggest of all times, but he was a sort of Robin Hood of modern times. ... read more

I love my work at Eafit! I love it to bits! I love teaching and think I'm very good at it. I get along well with my students and they genuinely seem to enjoy my classes. We had 'Evaluation del Docente', which means that students get to assess the teacher's activity in class, diversity of audio-visual teaching materials used, how involved the teacher really is in the individual progress of each student and so on. And according to my results, my students are very happy with me and my teaching :). I knew that, but it's so good to get confirmation!! Cheers! Enjoy the pictures! Some are taken during a pop quiz and some in the Eafit resource center. ... read more

It's strange how living in a country for a long time gives you another perspective , totally different from the one you had at the beginning. It's true that some things never change, but some of them you grow to accept and strangely enough to tell yourself that their way is much better than your way. Rest assured, I'm not getting lazy or irresponsible jejeje... that's what I've been complaining about the Colombian people on the coast. But not only that I understand them better and the way they think and see life in general, not only that I've started to accept things which in the beginning seemed excruciatingly stupid and out of place, but now I do believe that when it comes to certain aspects of life, their way is THE WAY. It still shocks ... read more

The point is you have 3 days to partyyyyy and here they party hard!!! Ok, I will tell you all about my 1st long weekend here. Some of my students ask me to translate that in English.
