Llanos
Hola Frank, A couple of years ago I was a volunteer in Colombia, first as a English teacher in a small town in Cundinamarca and than a photographer in the Universidad Nacional de Bogotá. After being in Colombia for more than 7 months I returned to Belgium to get my Bachelor in photography. In september I'm about to get my Master and specialise in documentary photography. But before I start I decide to return to Colombia to start my own photography project and look for stories. In the time I spent in Colombia I visited a lot of places from the north to the south of the country. After searching for a while my eyes fell on the Llanos because of the romantic/folkric culture of the llaneros. Also now Colombia is working on the processo de paz it seemd to open new doors for the country and the region. Next weekend I'm hopefully traveling to the city of Arauca for 2 days to photograph to project that a friend is working on. Later I probably travel to Yopal to stay with people I met on couchsurfing and who will show me their region and take me to local farmers. I really enjoyed reading your story so I was wondering if you have some tips for me like stories/people/places i should visit in arauca, casanare,... Thank you, Jef

Dear Jef, thanks very much for your kind message and I must say i am quite impressed by your background. I left los Llanos like more than 20 years ago and am not familiar now with what's going on there. Having said that, the folk of the region will always be fascinating, that hasn't changed and you can always have some free lessons of Cuatro and Maracas in Arauca, where you will be over the weekend. Wishing you all the best, enjoy.
