Geo: 4.60987, -74.082High in the mountains bordering Bogotá reigns this gorgeous sanctuary surrounded by extravagant green hills. The first Sunday of the month so many came here to pray that they closed the road--we were turned away. So we had to drive down one of the side streets through a really sketchy neighborhood--Mario says "put your purses on the floor" and hope we don't get stopped. He didn't say that last part but I was sure thinking it. Bob and I took a taxi up there a couple days later and although crowded, it was doable.... read more

Jason and I went down to Bogota/ Colombia to visit our family and to get married by the church! We had a Wonderful trip and Wedding :) While our visit we also went to another state close by that names Boyaca. There we visited different towns. Very cute and small. We stayed with Laura's family at a rent house by a beautiful lake named " Laguna de Tota". The lake had a very nice beach with white sand so the locals call it the white beach. Jason ate a typical Fish and felled in loved with the Colombian Culture. Back in Bogota we also visited different historical and tourist neighborhoods as " La Candelaria", " Usaquen", "Zipaquira" etc. This was a very short visit but we are so excited because we will be back for Christmas ... read more

For those of you who have a few days to spare and are bored with the city this is nice alternative. getting there You can take a bus from the portal (80)ochenta, just stand along the side of the road that the bus terminal and mall are on and keep an eye and an ear out for a bus that says 'la Mesa, Anapoima'. If your Spanish is a bit rusty be prepared to pay at minimum what they are asking, if not you can try to haggle the price down a bit. Last time I went it cost around $20,000 but that was to Anapoima which is a bit further so it should be a bit cheaper. If you feel ... read more

The paramo of Chingaza Don’t know what a paramo is, no worries, neither did I until Moka told me about them. A paramo is an alpine eco system that is found in the tropical Andes above 3000 m.a.s.l., in Colombia, Ecuator, Venezuela and Costa Rica. It is guarded by Fraliones, a kind of small funky palm, and even just a quick visit will leave you physically and mentally refreshed. PART ONE At Chingaza National Park just a couple of hours from Bogotá, the landscape has been shaped by glacial movements, it is rugged and striking. Deer watch us pass as we ascend the winding road and appear completely indifferent to our presence. Mountains are not rounded gentle peaks, but dramatic sharp lines jutting out from the earth, like toast from a toaster. The layers of rock ... read more
