Jesus Cristo! We did it, we did it.... the ship has landed, Bogota is here. What an incredible opportunity this be. Lou Gehrig said it first but shit is it true, i feel like the luckiest dude on this whole damn planet right now. It has been 48 hours but what a trek already. La Candelaria district where we are living is beyond any words that people have thought up yet. tiny streets with motorcycles and mini whips are everywhere, with fresh fruit stands on each and errrry corner. our hostel is already home. Diego, the heemie who runs the place is an ex-student who wants us to see everything that bogota has to offer. the hostel is filled with travelers from all over. the french group seems to keep to themselves for the most part but everyone else is one familia grande. tonight the canadians cooked us up some dinner from shit they bought from the market in exchange for some beer ( a sixer runs you about 3 american dollars). there is one other american from maine but the biggest come-up so far has been Miguel. Miggy is an 18 year old from Medellin who has taken us under his wing and helped us romp around the city with his local knowledge. Dude is a blessing and a half. I'm still in the haze of just arriving and everything has the tourist-shine to it but i love everywhere we go. the food is cheap, people don't mind that i can't speak their language, and everything is well. At first arrival i was a bit bummed about losing my luggage but decided to write a poem to hash out some feelings. here goes:

Self pity,

is like a third elbow.

Nobody needs that shit.

If my luggage turns up, great. if not, i am a light traveler. I had some pictures of my little niece and a very special compass that I would love to have returned but everything else is of little importance.
