From Valparaíso we took a trip into the adjoining town, Viña del Mar, which is known for it's beach, music festivals, casinos, and summer resort town status. On the top of our list, however, was a visit to the Fonck museum, a small natural history museum with an impressive collection of artifacts from civilizations all around Chile, including Rapa Nui - Easter Island. We were not disappointed, spending hours inside. We had lunch - paila marina and fish, with some local cordials made of herbs to wash it down. We walked around town, seeing the sites, the residential areas, and the beach. We are 15 minutes away from Valpo, yet we feel like we're in another world! Imaging putting Miami right next to the rough parts of SF past - it was quite a contrast. Although Viña is nice, we were decidedly happy that we were staying in Valpo.
