All day... All night... Today, the emphasis is on ALL DAY. Yes, it is 8:30 P.M. on a Thursday and I just got back from having the time of my life quite randomly at a bar/discoteca? I still can't decide what kind of place that was. All I know is that it was awesome! My host sister Priscilla A.K.A. Picha invited Brittney and me to a bar called
La Locomotora earlier. When she called, I looked at my watch and saw that it was only 2:30 in the afternoon. I was like, "Really? Who does that?" It just seemed a little less than classy if you know what I mean. I said yes of course! When Brittney and I got there Picha and her friend Carolina introduced us to some of their university friends. We got in for free. Everything was great. There was only one problem. The music at this place was way too good! Much too good for a bar in my opinion. But other than that, it had a very chill atmosphere. Suspicious. I should have known then that this was not going to be a normal, United States kind of bar experience. Picha leaned over and simply
told me, "This place is going to get crowded. REAL crowded" and that was an understatement. Slowly the music got louder and more and more college students filtered through the doors. Before where everyone was sitting down and relaxingly nodding their heads to the music, a few people got up and started dancing. I was so jealous. I had been itching to dance but there weren't quite enough people doing it yet for me to be able to without feeling like I stuck out. Then more people came, stood up, and started dancing. It spread like wild fire. Soon, everyone was standing up dancing and so did we. Surprisingly even more Chileans kept coming! It was like the whole of Valparaiso was trying to squeeze into that club. We were dancing and having a good time when I looked across the crowd and out the window. It was still day time and no one gave a flip! I looked at my watch and it was only 5 o'clock. It was insane. But I really didn't care too much either. I looked up and saw tables floating by on top of the people's heads. The room got so packed that that
was the only way the workers could remove the previous tables I suppose. And when we needed to get to the restroom upstairs we had to dance there. I don't know why but when clubs get crowded it's like you can't get through unless you literally dance through the masses. Long story short, we partied until the sun set and beyond and still got back home at a respectable hour. I feel quite accomplished if I must say so myself. Picha isn't home yet but she said the party isn't going to stop until 5 A.M. Brittney wasn't quite ready for that one! It's hard to believe that we just saw a sleepy afternoon bar turn into a raging nightclub. And it's doubly funny that here, you can actually dance the day/night away for hours on a weeknight and still get back at 8:30 just in time for dinner. I love this country.
