Arriving just after noon time at San Pedro de Atacama in the north of Chile, went through customs and immigration at the town itself, the customs guy upon seeing my passport told me he has lots of Filipino friends and that there are many Pinoys in Chile, did not really meet anyone my whole time there but it's a long country(geographically speaking). we were all put into a room, lined us up and have us put our backpacks on the table and they did a quick search, asking questions if we brought drugs, meat, fruits etc. It was done in 3 mins. we were dropped off in the center of town, it was unpaved roads and it's very dusty and dry, we decided to leave our packs at the bus company office while we search for ... read more

Geo: -33.4691, -70.642Ann and I went across the street to a small restaurant for breakfast: $1.50 each. Fresh squeezed orange juice, and well-buttered toast. The taxi driver got to the hotel ten minutes early -- one really has to admire his energy. Ann and I then went back to the hotel to get our bags, and I tripped on the steps. Ann stood and applauded, but two nice men came to help me up.We got to the airport about 09.30h or so. We got our boarding passes, but not seats. We had to wait until the plane landed to find out what seats were already taken. I walked outside and took pictures of the flags -- Peru, Chile, Canada, USSR, etc. Ann and I then took a short walk to the post office, but it was ... read more

Mom won the game and said we would play the second tomorrow. The pool was supposed to have been heating but it wasn't, it was only 61 degrees but we were awfully hot but went in for about one minute. Dinner was a barbeque (outdoor) and us three kids sat together. I had two pieces of watermelon for dessert.... read more

Geo: -33.3908, -71.2243We stopped for a day in Santiago, to unload our Washington apples and take on a load of Chilean apples. In Santiago, our bus was boarded by policemen carrying machine guns.My sister, age 11, wrote:At 9:30am we said Good-bye to the Gammons who were getting off. Then went on for thetour of Santiago. I slept most of the way there. We toured the city and then went to the top of San Cristobal and then half of the way back down to where we would eat lunch. We had some fish and thought we were done and then they brought chicken and dessert. I didn't finish. I slept on the way back. When we got to the ship we ate dinner then went to a show (magician and music) where we met the other ... read more
