Arrived in Santiago Friday night about 9.20p.m. after having a stopover en route from La Paz at Iquique in the Northern part of Chile, it looked like the most desolate place I have seen. We really thought we were just dropping off and taking on more passengers but we were all asked to leave the plane and clear immigration here. By the time we got through immigration they were calling us for our flight, so much security it was unbelievable, scanned our bags etc three times. Anyway got here safely and Patty, who we rented the apartment off, sent her driver to pick us up and all was good. The apartment is sensational on the 20th floor of an apartment block on the edge of the CBD, Patty was an artist in her other life and the apartment reflects this with lovely decoration and art. It is extremely comfortable and for $90 a night fantastic value. We have walked miles around Santigago it is such a pretty city with lots of parks etc. John has been fanging for a steak, hasn't had a good one since we left home and is sick of trying tough ones, llama, guinea pig
etc so I researched to find a good steak house in Santiago, found one and decided to walk there for dinner tonight, 3.8km, fantastic meal, it was like Vlados in Richmond, just a steak on the plate and you can order a side, but the steak was sensational and after a bottle of red with it, I said to John maybe we could get a taxi home, "no glor we need the walk" OKKKKKKK!!! so did the 3.8km back to our apartment. The weather has been a bit like Melbourne, I think, the first two days here was drizzling but today was beautiful sunny but crisp, we have a sensational view from our apartment over the snow capped mountains of the Andes. Caught up on some washing etc and just chilling out. Home on thursday evening. Now looking forward to getting home and catching up with everyone, it does seem more than 9 weeks ago that we left home, we have packed such a lot in.
