Sometimes you're walking around Santiago and you forget where you are. Then you look up and see the Andes towering over the city and you remember. There are so many things I love about this Andean nation. I love walking in the rush hour crowds, wandering around Bellavista looking at the old houses, chewing on a cheese empanada in plaza italia, climbing to san cristobal, sipping a pisco sour everywhere, sopa at el juerto, watching the Lakers play at the California Bar, taking the metro and a taxi to the Andes, riding a horse up the craziest cliffs anywhere, rafting in ice cold water, and thinking about who lives in all of those mansions in Providencia. At one minute you could be minding your own business walking down providencia and the next minute you are running from troops and a water cannon being used to break up a student protest. This city is alive...
