Mar 16 - Puerto Varas. Influence allemande / Under German influence

Me voici repartie vers le sud direction Puerto Montt où Delphine me rejoint lundi pour un mois. Et à Puerto Montt, il n’y a vraiment rien de joli, je l’ai bien compris. Donc ce sera une pause en chemin ce week-end à Puerto Varas à 20 min.

Je vais peut-être ouvrir un autre thème: lac et volcan! Puerto Varas est une autre station balnéaire située au bord d’un lac et ‘non loin’ du volcan Osorno qui a lu aussi des neiges éternelles mais qui est fermé à cette période. Même si elle connaît aussi un développement touristique important et permet de faire kayak de mer, rafting, pêche à la mouche et randos, elle me déçoit au premier abord car elle est beaucoup plus grande et moins carte postale que Pucon. Mais elle est aussi imprégnée historiquement de l’influence allemande, et de façon plus subtile ou en tout cas plus naturelle que la Suisse à Bariloche ! Apparemment, des maisons construites au début du 20^ème siècle rappellent l’architecture de la Forêt Noire (Aude, Pierre, Marie-Laure, d’après les photos, vous en pensez quoi ?) En tout cas, pour moi de façon basique, leurs tuiles en écailles me font penser à certaines maisons avec lesquelles je jouais parfois quand j’étais petite (les tiennes d’ailleurs Pipou !). L’un dans l’autre, Puerto Varas a son charme tout de même.

It’s time to head up South again, towards Puerto Montt, where my friend Delphine will join me for a month. I was told many times by Chilean and tourists that Puerto Montt is not worth a stop for sightseeing, I got it, so I have decided to stop on the way at Puerto Varas, located 20 minutes away from there.

I’m thinking of opening a new theme named ‘lake and volcano’! Puerto Varas is another beach resort near a lake and the Osorno volcano. The volcano also has permanent snow but impossible to climb at the moment. Like Pucon, it is a touristic town that offers sea kayak, rafting, fly-fishing and hikes, but I’m disappointed at first sight. Maybe because it’s much bigger than Pucon and less postcard like? However, you can feel the German heritage from the immigrants at the end of the 19^th century and – to my opinion - it is done in a more subtle way than Bariloche with Switzerland! Apparently, houses built at the beginning of 20^th century reflect the architecture of the Black Forest. Anyway, after second views, Puerto Varas has its own character.
