WOW, this is amazing, i barely have any time to update anything, send emails etc.....everything is happening so fast, plus im unable to access my email account anyway. Ive just finished my first expedition to the Cerro Castillo range in Chile. It was a 13 day expedition around the amazing peaks of Cerro Castillo. Ive been ice climbing on glaciers, abseiled down huge passes, self arrested on a 60 degree slope!!!! Its so much fun. In town for a short while and then im off to Lanin (a volcano) in northern Patagonia for 3 weeks. Hopefully i can find some more time to get on a PC and get up some photos. ¿¡¿Que pasa amigos?!? I can´t believe my time in Santiago is flying by so quickly! This Thursday, February 1st, I leave Santiago to begin my free travel throughout the southern cone of South America. We are planning on traveling to Mendoza (Argentina), Buenos Aires, Montevideo, Punta del Este (Uruguay), Iguazu Falls (Argentina), and Viña del Mar (Chile). This past weekend, January 25th through January 28th, was my last weekend in Chile with the Delaware program and was our "free weekend" where we could choose where, if anywhere, we wanted to travel. A group of 11 of us (10 girls and 1 boy, lucky him!) traveled to northern Chile, first to Chañeral to see the desert and then to Caldera and Bahia Inglesa to the beach! Caldera and Copiapo are pretty sleepy towns but nice to visit if only for a couple of days each. On our first day in in the seaside settlement of Caldera there were civil servants placing a Tsunami warning guide in the main plaza which is great so if there happened to be one while visiting we would be, in theory, able to get to high land. Walked over to visit the Grotto that doesn't seem to actually be a grotto in the classical sense, it's more a church built on a mass of rock. Should you visit it the view of the city from the top of the stairs is pretty alright. Taking photos of the frightning murals inside we decided to walk over to the coastline for another perspective of the place. Some youth were ... read more
