Well it´s another grey day in Villarica - I´m dying to see this volcano, the photos and postcards I´ve seen make it look pretty impressive. Spent the morning at Lake Villarica, hoping that the weather would clear, but no dice as yet. The forecast for tomorrow looks good, though, so keep an eye out for volcano photos soon. Apparently Volcan Villarica is the second most frequently exploding volcano in SA, and also the most violent when it does explode. The town hall has a bit volcano alert system - at the moment we´re only on green alert, but you can never be too sure with volcanoes....

the sand and the rest of the soil in Villarica is a gritty volcanic black sand.
