21st March to 23rd March Pucon is a small but picturesque town next to Villarrica volcano which is 2,847m high. The town is really cute and I really liked it there. The volcano is cone shaped and had snow near the top and is active! The surrounding countryside is stunning, big mountains covered in forests. 21st - Today we were up at 5.45am to go and climb Villarrica volcano!! I was so excited and the plan was to slide back down some of the way on the ice! Sounds scary but I had got the courage up and was ready to go. Driving up the volcano as the sunrose and the day seemed peaceful and nice. However when we got to the starting point the guides told us that they had information that it was incredibly ... read more

We arrived in Pucon to pouring rain and unfortunately our trip up the volcano was cancelled. However, our fab tour guide Sergio agreed to change the itinerary for us so that we could stay an extra day to climb the volcan as long as we left early evening on Sunday. On Saturday, I took a walk around the town while the rest of the group slept and got up. It is a ski resort in the winter and has lots of wooden cabins. Every other shop sells adventure tours - the volcano, rafting, canyoning you name it! Anyway on Saturday afternoon we went rafting on Grade 4 rated rapids. IIt was pretty scary at times, mostly because the guide was screaming so loud at us that it made you jump whenever he shouted. The highlight was ... read more

We had a nice small group of 5 with two guides. We had to start at 7:00 AM and had to reach the top by about midday because the heat of the day melts the ice near the top which releases boulders and stones making it very dangerous. We were given all the kit to carry - helmets, ice axes, boots, gaiters, crampons, hats, gloves, sunglasses, waterproof trousers and a bum protector. More about the last later. In a addition we had to bring food and at least 1.5 liters of water, and a spare jumper. This lot was very heavy! The weather was extremely hot and cloudless - the area was having the worst drought in 50 years, causing the glacier on top of the volcano to shrink, causing crevasses to appear and loose stones ... read more

Headed to the "near" south. Wonderful drive down the Pan-American highway accompanied most of the time by the towering Andes. Very little traffic. So far we have had no rain. The area we are headed for is called the "Lake District" and specifically to an area around Lake Villarrica and the live volcano also called Villarirca that we intend to climb! It doesn't look far on the map but was an 11 hour drive (although we stopped overnight in a pleasant market town called Chillan). This country is long! Just before arriving at Villarrica we visted some impressive waterfalls called Los Saltos de Laja. Stayed in a sort of shack they call a cabaña in Villarrica town. We got ripped off and had to pay £20 for the night for four of us. We found later ... read more

Quais as diferenças?

Nejprve letadlem spolecnosti Sky Airline Chile do Santiaga a odtud autobusem smer Pucon.

Osazenstvo minibusu tvorili krome me 2 pruvodci, dva typci z Kolumbie, jeden par ze Statu, jeden Ital a dve Norky.

Leaving Chiloe behind we moved onto one of Chile's most visited regions, the Lake District. We had taken things relatively easy in Chiloe, so we were looking forward to plenty of hiking and climbing after leaving the islands. The Lake District in Chile lies roughly between the cities of Temuco & Puerto Montt. The main towns are connected by the Pan American highway, running through the western half, while most of the lakes, mountains and volcanoes are found within a series of national parks and reserves, in more remote areas closer to the Argentinian border. Access to these parks is often via dirt roads, meaning it takes time to see all the sites, and that you usually need to return to the Pan American to move north or south. The relative inaccessibility of these parks, however, ... read more

I left Santiago and headed straight to Pucon for New Years. I figured that while I was there I may as well Climb the Volcan Villarrica. So on New years eve I went with a group for an all day hike up to the top.. The view was amazing, it was to bad smoke was so thick on that day we could not see the lava. After the Climb I returned to the hostel for a huge BBQ (its hot down here) then went to the Lake to see the fireworks. I know I am a little late getting this blog up, I am trying..... I hope everyone had a Great New Years..... read more

Today I climbed up to Volan Villarica, an active volcano near Pucon. The climb was very nice. We started with a ski-lift, which took us to about 1800m above sea level. Then we walked up through snow to the peak, an active volcano crater, at about 2800m. The way down was much easier. We slid down on our asses (not all the way, but most of it, and with breaks in the middle), which was really fun. I´m trying to get to Bariloche soon, but the buses are kind of full, so it might take a few days. For now, just look at the pictures of the magnificent view from the top of the mountain.... read more
