Headed to the "near" south. Wonderful drive down the Pan-American highway accompanied most of the time by the towering Andes. Very little traffic. So far we have had no rain. The area we are headed for is called the "Lake District" and specifically to an area around Lake Villarrica and the live volcano also called Villarirca that we intend to climb!

It doesn't look far on the map but was an 11 hour drive (although we stopped overnight in a pleasant market town called Chillan). This country is long!

Just before arriving at Villarrica we visted some impressive waterfalls called Los Saltos de Laja. Stayed in a sort of shack they call a cabaña in Villarrica town. We got ripped off and had to pay £20 for the night for four of us. We found later that we should have paid about half. Fantastic view of the lake with the volcano beyond.
