We were at sea again all day today cruising the Chilean Fjords at an average speed of 15.3 knots in unrelentingly bleak conditions. After a pretty late breakfast we completed four laps of the promenade deck. Four laps of the deck equals one mile. We are trying to do a bit of exercise despite being cooped up on the ship all day!We think there is an unwritten rule that you are supposed to walk the deck in an anticlockwise direction. That is certainly what the majority of walkers do. However, there always seem to be a couple of walkers swimming against the tide!! We reached the San Rafael Glacier in the middle of the day and spent quite a while admiring its alluring blue face. Our Location Guide, Ryan, was providing commentary over the ship's PA ... read more

This week marks our class' trip to the south of Chile, where we toured Puerto Montt and San Rafael Lake. It was a heck of a time. This is our 2nd and final trip where all 20 of us will be together. Tue, Oct 27 2 more days until our trip to the south! In class we talked about our weekends, as well as what we should to to prepare for our upcoming trip. We were going to take a bus to Puerto Montt, stay there for a day, and then the next day get on our cruise. That made a lot of sense, because after a long bus ride to Puerto Montt, we are going to need to take a rest. There was an option to go in a really comfortable bus for about $4 ... read more

We took the overnight bus form Concepcion to Puerto Montt. We left Concepcion at 11pm. We were on the second level of a double decker bus. We were so excited so I didn´t go to sleep until about 1 or 2 a.m. Christina ended up getting sick on the way. I woke up to a beautiful sunrise. You could see Volcano Osorno. I went to the bathroom but I struggled to get the door open. It was really hard! Granted I wasn´t very awake but I got some weird looks. They served us coffee and cookies on the bus. I don´t usually drink coffee but I liked the stuff they gave us. We arrived at the bus station and realized that we had no idea where our hostel was. Triana called and eventually we figured it ... read more

After our amazing horse trek in the Andes we made our way to Puerto Montt, where we launched our 5 day Navimag cruise to the glacier at San Rafael. We checked our bags and strolled around the city for a few hours before disembarking. On board there were 130 passengers of which 110 were Chilean. The remaining 20 were English, Spanish, French, German, and Canadian. Rounding out the passengers were 40 crew so it was quite a full ship. The ship was originally a cargo vessel that has been partially transformed to transport passengers. It's a little rough around the edges but we enjoyed it! We boarded at 4 pm and noticed we only had one roommate - we were expecting two - so that gave us a little more space. Our roommate was Alberto from ... read more

I have just spent a fun four nights and five days on a boat in the South of Chile. Didn’t really know what to expect when we booked the trip as our Spanish is too poor, so we just took a chance. It turned out to be really good and we spent the whole time cracking up. When we first got on the boat we thought it was going to be absolute hell as we had to sleep in what was basically a bus seat for four consecutive nights. I am looking forward to sleeping horizontally tonight! The first few days were spent sailing down towards our final destination, the San Rafael Glacier. We reached it on the third day and spent the while day there. We were taken out in small speed boats in groups ... read more
