The river runs from the Chile-Argentina border down to the Pacific. Blue and clear, it had become a raging torrent when my road joined and followed it Southwest through the mountains. What was unexpected was to find a large group of rafters and kayakers going down it. That looked really scary. I followed them down to where they took out. The organizers and some of the clients were Americans. They didn't seem to have lost anyone. The road out of Trevelin into Chile to Futaleufú was deep gravel. After a brief 10 km pavement respite, it was gravel again until I reached the Chilean equivalent of Argentina's Ruta 40. Right now we're driving through a valley with giant mountains on either side following a river, every time I look up I see unbelievable beauty! The babes are napping ( ahhh silence ) the beauty of RVing :) After almost a month of being away its hard to describe the feeling of reflection and joy.....feeling so connected and content, to quote good old Oprah....so many Aha moments. Staying as present in the moment as possible has being my biggest gift. I left with some expectations and at the same time no expectations. After leaving Coyhaique we had 6 days to cover 420km to get to Chaiten so that we could get the ferry on Wednesday evening to Puerto Montt. We left Coyhaique late after cooking a full english breakfast for our swiss companions and getting our bikes back from the shop so only managed 40km the first afternoon. We had two good days next with 100km one day (and found a cafe en route to get a burger) and 80km the other to make it to Puyuhuapi late afternoon on the Sunday. The next 3 days the weather closed in and rained for pretty much the entire time so we were not happy chaps.
